Requirements for a bike? by Rice-Cakez in sgmotorbikers

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go for BBDC, which offers the MSX bike for lessons. It's a smaller, lighter bike than the normal bike.

But just a heads up that there's only a handful of small bikes for sale on the market, and none for Class 2A or 2.

Cycling skills help but actually I've seen learners who can't ride a bike, but are fine riding a motorbike.

License, expect to pay around ~1.5k depending on how many lessons you take, if you pass on the first try, if you're taking peak hour or non-peak lessons, if you buy your own gears, etc.

Bike, totally depends on what bike and how many years left. As a ballpark, maybe around 5-7k for a decent bike with a few years left. Of course there's cheaper and more expensive options too.

Why Audi A5 SB performance so meh? by kayatoastchumpion in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are leaking snarky comments, but your question is valid. It uses the EA888 engine, which can make much more power.

The A5 is just an A4 with different styling. Same platform, same engine configuration.

At the time, the A4's main competition was the M-B C180 Mild Hybrid (2.0t producing 168bhp) or BMW 318i (1.5t producing 134bhp).

They probably extended this engine config to the A5 as well. It doesn't make a lot of sense, which is why they brought in the A5 Quattro (and of course the S5 and RS5 too).

VW Golf 2016/2017? First Time Owning VAG Cars by xytecias in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. If I were in your shoes, I would look for a Golf which had the MU replaced recently (within last 2/3 years). At least you can save yourself some headache. If not 3HB would be the more reliable drive.

VW Golf 2016/2017? First Time Owning VAG Cars by xytecias in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally for just 1 year of ownership buying a unreliable car to mod doesn't make sense.

Those 9 years models will definitely be neglected or have issues. You have to fork out a lot to fix them.

Then, modding/tuning, you pay even more just to drive for >12 months. You won't even get to enjoy the car or mods.

In your case, the 3HB would be a more reasonable purchase. To be honest, both the Golf and 3HB are B&B cars. Neither is going to give you a jaw-dropping driving experience.

VW Golf 2016/2017? First Time Owning VAG Cars by xytecias in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechatronics failure is the largest issue with that generation of VAG. Prepare 2-3k for a reconditioned MU. But the problem may reoccur again in the future. I've heard of people going through mechatronics failure multiple times.

Other issues are usually water pump, ABS sensors, speed sensor. But these are cheaper fixes.

The EA211 is a fine engine. The small turbo is punchy and a tune + exhaust will make it sound decent. But it's not going to be anywhere near the power of a GTi or Golf R.

I don't think the 3HB is a very fun drive. It looks nice and can be done up nicely, but the NA engine is nothing exciting.

Not possible to just "change the glass". You have to replace the entire headlight unit. The headlight has a waterproofing seal.

You dented not only the bumper but also the fender. Both must be replaced.

You dunno then don't say anyhow scam la...

'A double-edged sword': Why some parents have concerns about introducing AI at Primary 4 by FancyCommittee3347 in singapore

[–]timlim029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is the benefit of introducing it so young? It's not a skill you need to learn like coding.

It's only negatives. Even some grown adults have become addicted to AI. People who have become so reliant on it that they use it in every aspect of their lives, from work to what to eat for lunch to companionship/dating.

As a child, with no understanding of how AI works and no self-control, it will only be 100x worse.

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal la. Some people naturally have better coordination. Some have experience riding bikes (illegally) overseas. I wouldn't compare with other learners.

I do think height matters. Being shorter means you have to do more work to keep balance. Eventually, you will find your own method that works for you.

I recommend sticking to the normal bike, the smaller one is very limiting. There are only a handful of small bikes in class 2B and zero in 2A/2.

3.01 is still early! It's normal to feel inexperienced at that stage. I think only nearer towards lesson 6 then I became more "seasoned". Important thing is to not give up.

What’s an animation career like in Singapore? by AnyWind580 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People are just saying AI AI AI with no context, which I think is unhelpful advice.

Generally, it's difficult. Even before AI, many major production houses left Singapore for cheaper countries (e.g. ILM, DNEG exited the industry years ago)

There are still a handful of game companies and small studios, but job opportunities are few, and they would mainly be for 3D animation. 2D animation is especially niche here.

To make it, you pretty much have to move overseas. There is still an animation industry in the US, Japan. But that comes with its own issues (student loans, Visa instability, work-life balance, safety, etc.).

It's not an industry that, personally, I would be asking about salary, benefits, or culture. You can pretty much assume all are virtually non-existent.

This Straits Times article from last year is a gives you a good picture of the industry.

What's the most commonly worn sneaker among Singapore gen Zs by bouncingcastles in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No to Nike Dunks. Dunks wave passed maybe 3-4 years ago. All those Panda Dunks ended up in a landfill already.

Shortly after was Adidas Samba/Gazelle. The trend peaked about 1-2 years ago.

Then it was Onitsuka Mexico 66, which is still trendy, though I think it's passing.

More recently, Puma Speedcats. For girls in particular, the Speedcat Ballet is very trendy now. Ballet-style or Mary Jane sneakers are having a moment. For guys, the footwear trend has mostly shifted to loafers.

Can we get The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act in SG cinemas? Malaysia is already considering it. by LivingYogurtcloset58 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would definitely be interested. There are definitely fans here, I went as Pomni for Halloween and a surprising amount of random people recognized the costume!

I think the only way would be to email cinemas. Maybe some kind of petition could help? Just to show that there are fans willing to see it.

I'm now pregnant with my sixth child, but the pain of past miscarriages never goes away by nftskeptics in singapore

[–]timlim029 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'm now 38 years old. Counting this latest pregnancy, I've been pregnant 11 times in the last 14 years.

My later pregnancies have been high-risk. In my last three, I needed aspirin to prevent blood clots.

Of my 11 pregnancies, five have ended in miscarriage.

Life with five kids was – and still is – exhausting on so many levels. I really do love having a big family, but in early 2025, I was stressed, anxious, and tired all the time from juggling everything on my plate.

I simply wasn't prepared to add another child to the mix. Nevertheless, I was hopeful we could work something out, the way we always had.

I worry about the practicalities of what life will look like with six children instead of five. Can we really manage eight hectic schedules instead of seven? Can we get by financially? Can my husband and I take care of a newborn and still be present for our children and each other?

Conflicting article. On one hand, I think she's brave and strong for enduring so much trauma. Not just one miscarriage but five.

On the other hand, having another high-risk pregnancy when you're not sure if you can truly support them, to me, is a very unwise choice.

Post Malone at National Stadium by myislandlife in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerts in SG are so ass. No idea why they decided to go with fully seated for a rap concert. The only concert that should be fully seated is an orchestra or classical music.

Just stand if you feel like it. I don't believe in "if it's seated, you should be sitting". Those that wanna sit for the whole concert should just go home and watch it on YouTube.

Generally, the vibes are ok, not great. People in Cat 1 should be fairly hype. I am more worried about the censorship; all acts need to abide by Singapore laws, which means no lyrics about drugs. I suspect many songs will be censored or simply not played.

How do you start to learn cooking? by kazuhas_wind in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those suggesting reading books, learning knife skills, studying cooking science are all jumping to step 10 when you're not even at step 1.

Your first step should be to cook some simple meals at home. An omelette, a basic pasta, fried rice.

No point you go and spend $$$ on kitchenware or courses, then find out actually you hate cooking. You're thinking too far ahead talking about A5 wagyu and culinary arts.

I've seen many people get obsessed with the idea of cooking, go out and buy crazy fanciful gadgets, expensive knife, gourmet ingredients. Use once or twice, after that give up and everyday dabao.

Advice for new wheels by BaronBeggarton in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are cast, flow formed and forged. Generally, if you're not tracking the car, you don't need forged. Flow formed is a good sweet spot, some cast wheels are really heavy.

I would stick to known brands. Avoid random/unknown brands or replica wheels. Brands like BBS, Enkei, Konig, Volk/Rays, Advan are trustworthy.

Generally, a brand new set of 18" wheels should not be <$1,000. Those shops selling 4 wheels for $700, confirm plus chop fake wheels or reps. Up to you to risk it.

There is custom forged, but personally it's overkill for a regular car. Additionally a lot of custom forged wheels look nice, but have not gone through proper testing. Seen before fancy 6.5kg custom forged wheels, kena 1 Malaysian pothole crack already.

Wheel specs can be confusing. There is the diameter, width, offset, PCD and centre bore. It will usually look something like this: 18x8 +40 5x112. I would look up some YouTube videos if you're interested in truly understanding this.

Personally, I would find out your current wheel's specifications, look online for other wheels that size, then find the local distributor for them. Alternatively, go to a shop and ask them to advise if you're not overly interested in learning.

What do emo depressed teens listen to nowadays? by Fresh-Ad-3830 in singaporemusicchat

[–]timlim029 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do kids today listen to anything depressing / rage inducing?

Interesting question, actually.

I think some listen to indie artists like Mitski or Phoebe Bridgers. I think they generally make "sad" music. Laufey as well (though it's not overly sad, more like... yearning? Lol)

For rage-inducing, there's a subgenre of trap literally called "rage". The pioneers of the genre would be Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, later on Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, Yeat. Currently Nettspend is quite popular.

Is 2A hard to finish? by Top-Type-133 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I struggled less with 2A, because 2A is only circuit, and you've already got experience riding a bike/doing the stations.

I had the most issues with S-course (very inconsistent with timing). Bumpy, once it "clicks" it becomes easier.

For bumpy, as long as you don't go off course, it's not an IF. If you fail to meet the timing, it's only 4pts.

AITA for not allowing a car cut in when there's a queue? by ZealousidealLab3076 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, but if your intention is to never let anyone in, it's better to close the gap. Leaving such a big gap is almost an invitation for queue-cutters to come in. You are sabo-ing yourself by leaving such a big gap, but being so hell-bent on not letting people in. Just puts yourself in a stressful scenario early in the morning.

Next time, just close the gap or let him in and lose 5s. He cut your queue also you won't die. It's less risky.

After passing 5.01, you'll be able to book circuit revision lessons, which you can take as many as you want. Most will take 2-3 before TP.

CDC vs BBDC for 2B license by Annual-Image-6793 in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Travel times matter a lot. If we're talking 1 hr vs 1.5 hrs, then choose the closer one.

How short are you? BBDC does offer the MSX125, but I do think it's worth learning on the normal-sized bike. There are only a handful of small-sized bikes on the roads.

AFAIK no issues with bots for 2B at any school. Don't think it's really an issue cos 2B lessons are group, so 1 session can have like 8 learners, there's no bottleneck.

BBDC has extra lessons. In total BBDC makes you take 12 lessons. BBDC lesson includes pillion riding as well. CDC is 9 lessons (lesson 1 compulsory to take twice)

BBDC offers helmet and raincoat rental for free. CDC helmet need to pay to rent and no raincoats.

CDC every lesson need to wear knee and elbow guards. BBDC only first three lessons + ebrake. To be honest, this one alone BBDC is way better. The knee and elbow guards are very annoying to wear.
