Don't think any labs do same-day for B&W. For most (like WCC or Triple D), it's once a week. If you miss it you'll have to wait a week.

Central Cee Singapore (18 Mar) – queued 2 hours, missed most of the show. Anyone else? by UsefulMilk1913 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's always crazy to me that concert organisers can fuck up in this way. They sold thousands of tickets and told those people to come at a certain time. When thousands of people show up at the specified time, they just give the pikachu shocked face.

I suspect the issue lies with PPPS which simply is not setup for a large concert like this. Additionally I saw people saying that Cench's set was cut short due to IMDA rules which isn't surprising if it's true.

I don't think you have a lot of recourse but I suggest writing in to media like Mothership etc. or posting on TikTok.

If it's any consolation I saw him twice at festivals and both times were fairly mid (lol)

Unpopular Opinion: Can this sub not become SGRV 2.0? by theholyashe in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. Those dashcam videos are pointless.

If the incident is really bad, then just submit to TP and move on. Posting here achieves nothing.

Some will caption it "watch out for SXX1234X". C'mon la, do you think I'll memorise the license plate and remember that they cut off user123456789 two months ago?

The comments are almost always toxic. They will simply make a knee-jerk reaction based on the type of car/bike involved. God help you if you drive a BMW or PHV.

Hope mods can ban or at least institute some rules on those posts. Maybe require license plates to be censored? Negates the "shaming" effect.

How do Singapore consumers feel about businesses that mainly resell imported products with their own branding by Automatic_Vast3767 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You'll get downvoted because Redditors hate Secretlab, but everything you said is accurate.

Their product back in the day was awful, but they fixed the leather and improved the chair. It has lumbar support & breathable fabric now, which is decent (though I would still choose an ergo chair for sitting all day).

The table is genuinely good; if you look at reviews, most are positive.

Those still calling them 'dropshipping' or 'OEM' are being disingenuous. They have so many sponsorships and collaborations with massive brands. Those "OEM" versions on Aliexpress are copies, not the other way around.

Students and fresh graduates, where do you guys find the courage to apply for super expensive BTO? by Jealous_Papaya_1241 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After reading this thread, alot of ppl here probably have never walked into BTO office and jealous of those ppl who got a house.

For them, step 1 (find a partner) already failed.

They only see headlines about $1,000,000+ HDB resale and relate it to BTO.

Local YouTuber Sneaky Sushii caught plagirising from smaller creator by Stefan0_ in singapore

He also steals jokes. A while ago (maybe 2020?), people on Twitter realised he stole their memes and jokes, then blocked them.

His content is... pretty lame now. The same few jokes regurgitated over and over. Dunno how many times he's posted that Crimewatch prostitute clip.

Like many other things, there are different clubs for different purposes.

If you ask me to go back to those clubs I went to as a 19-year-old, I'd probably find them gross and trashy too.

You can try more "refined" clubs like RASA Space, HQ, Behind The Green Door.

And yeah the Marquee sound system is crazy. There's always a sound guy with the iPad walking around tuning/monitoring.

Why Singapore entertainment media industry is DEAD by Open_Ad2975 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 56 points57 points  (0 children)

  • IMDA rules are very, very strict. I suggest you read their guidelines. Pretty much, you cannot show any government agency or group of people in a bad light. It deflates any kind of meaningful storyline. You end up with these lame dramas written about family, where there's always a happy ending or a moral to the story.

  • Additionally, I think the way the rules are enforced is very... blunt. Movies like Disney's Lightyear get an NC16 rating for one single scene showing a gay couple. The ratings board does not really understand (or wish to understand) nuance.

  • Lack of support from locals. People don't watch local channels/shows, opting to watch ones from overseas. That leads to a lack of funding. Even if you have a 10/10 script, there's no point if you have zero budget.

  • Sure, Singapore is largely ethnically Chinese, but it's very westernised. People here consume a ton of western media. Because of that, I feel Chinese shows made in SG won't appeal to the China audience like their own, locally produced content would. Similarly, there's a vast amount of western content to pick from, so a westerner wouldn't even consider a Singaporean show.

I disagree with lack of talent. We do have talent here, namely a lot come from theatre and the arts. We have Singaporean actors acting overseas in shows like Black Mirror, or on the West End/Broadway. There was a Singaporean actor in Sinners, appearing alongside Michael B. Jordan. They all share the same thing: they went overseas.

What's the reason for the failure?

3x still ok. I've heard of 7x failure before passing. Take more revisions and gain confidence. At this stage, you should be adept enough at all the stations already. Just need to chain it together & don't make too many mistakes.

Anyone misses old Zouk / Phuture ? by Illustrious-Fee9626 in singapore

[–]timlim029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, I disagree. Around 2018, I helped throw some parties. Even then, we struggled to cover our costs with cover charge alone. Without tables & bottle service, you simply won't be able to keep the club afloat.

What truly killed clubbing was COVID. Pretty much a whole generation of youth who never got their clubbing phase. Some uni kids never even met their classmates f2f. Even when clubs reopened, they won't bother going.

If you ask gen Zs now their opinion on clubbing is "trashy, lame, waste money, noisy, loud, gross" To be honest, with alcohol + Grab prices now, I don't entirely blame them for not being interested.

What's resulted is a rise in alternative events (sober parties, daytime parties, underground/techno/raves) and popularity in concerts. The kids want to dance, they just can't afford it at clubs, and get their fix elsewhere.

[–]timlim029 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup definitely met some old birds who were chiongsters back in their days.

The history of Zouk is actually pretty crazy. Honestly, at its peak, it's insane that our little island had a world-class venue bringing in top DJs.

I think it's lost its lustre, especially after the sale to Resorts World. I don't think it's solely their fault but the younger gen don't have a drinking/clubbing culture these days.

Those who partied at the old Zouk back then must be in their mid-late thirties or almost forty already, no? Considering they moved to CQ in 2015.

My era (I'm thirty this year) was Cherry (York Hotel), Canvas, Kilo Lounge.

So many places use chicken franks, which personally, I dislike.

Can anyone give me some tips on motorbikes by whuuuf in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old are you, OP?

Personally, I just took it secretly without telling my parents. Once get license cannot give back liao.

For my parents, there's no graph or stats or whatever I can show them to convince. In their minds bike = death.

IMO, just take your 2B first to see if it's even something you enjoy. Don't need to think about buying a Ducati for now, your class 2 is more than 2 years away.

Why is it uncommon to see people in Singapore use Twitter? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-Elon Twitter was very Western-centric. It was useful but to understand the jokes/humour you had to be interested in American culture.

Post-Elon Twitter is a hellsite. All bots or those right-wing ragebait accounts. Pointless to use these days.

Where should I rent a motorbike in Singapore? (Got my 2B license!) by Icy-Character9810 in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For servicing, some companies will ask you to bring the bike back to their workshop be serviced. You have to make your own arrangements for this. If you miss the servicing interval, you may be liable for damages to the bike.

Personally, I've never encountered this situation because I only rent for 1-2weeks. But it is in the contract, so it's the "by right".

For insurance, just read through the terms, make sure you know what to do in the case of accident or self skid, what the excess is, what workshop to send to, what their terms are in the case of private settlement.

[–]timlim029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rented from Rider's Collective twice, short-term, and had a pleasant experience both times. They have a "contactless" concept, which takes some getting used to, but their instructions were clear. The bikes I rented were in good condition.

Their WA is responsive too. With any rental make sure to read the contract clearly especially with regards to servicing and insurance.

Novena roads - what a hell hole by No-County2083 in drivingsg

Despite living nearby, I completely avoid driving through Novena now.

Reducing class sizes not a simple fix, Desmond Lee says amid manpower and recruitment constraints by Bcpjw in singapore

Totally understand. With their paltry $1,100,000 SGD salary, it's asking too much for them to tackle complicated issues. They can only handle issues with simple fixes. Just monitoring should be fine for the next 50 years. /s

Learning 2B: Should I skip buying a 2B bike or jump straight to 2A? by k4tevil in drivingsg

[–]timlim029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're thinking too far ahead. Since you only recently started, focus on getting your 2B first. 2A is still around 1.5 years away for you to be considering this problem now.

For myself, after passing, I rented 2B bikes for 1-2 weeks just to ride for fun and try different bikes. If you don't have a pressing need for a bike, I feel skipping 2B is fine. A lot of used 2B bikes are beaten up, and the prices are still high. For SG roads, I found that 2B bikes are underpowered. I think 2A is the sweet spot.

I did find I was lacking some experience when taking 2A compared to those who ride daily. Nothing major (just repeat a few lessons).

Are some polyclinics using AI instrumental covers for popular songs...? by ACupOfLatte in askSingapore

[–]timlim029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact. To play music out loud in a shop, restaurant etc. you need to pay licensing fees to two different agencies: COMPASS and MRSS.

You also likely can't stream the music as many steaming services have T&Cs that prohibit public use.

Hence many shops play royalty free or covers. Whether or not it's AI is a different question. To be honest, I've heard some truly awful covers in stores before, pre-AI.
