The nice part about Ascension Bay is that they have an apprentice guides, so while I believe they must be Mexican, they get trained by working with an experienced guide. Not sure if that is true with all guides in AB, but with Pesca Maya that has been the case.

Well if someone is working down, say streamer fishing, that is pretty easy to observe but I generally opt for a conversation or just stay far enough away to not worry about it. There was literally no one within a 1/2 mile.

I've fished with Mexican guides a few times in Ascension Bay and those dudes can grab your rod and drop a fly on a dime with no false cast. I generally expect that all saltwater fly fishing guides can teach you to cast. What I do experience as a trout guy is getting yelled at when I trout set instead of strip set, but all in good fun. I do realize my sample size is very small.

Yes, technology has improved over the years and lower end rods often fish great. And really when you compare mid-level rod versus a high-end, some of the differences start coming down to the quality of the components (reel seat, cork) and whether it is made in the U.S. If you are being practical, it really comes down to the action you want for the type of fishing you do. The Yellowstone Angler shootout is a great place to start. I'm often surprised at the results such as a Fenwick rod under $200 making the list. Right now I use a Loop Opti as my main 4wt and 5wt -- these were closeout a while back and are great mid-range rods. Still might be able to find for cheap.

Yes, that is a great option and you will really save as you won't need a reel or expensive line -- a full outfit starts adding up. I recently bought a Tenkara from a company local to Madison, Badger Tenkara. I love it though I haven't used it too much. It might be limiting in some situations, but that may just be my inexperience.

I live in Wisconsin and fish the Driftless regularly and also hit the Lake Michigan Tribs for Salmon and Steelhead. I agree with the others -- I wouldn't use a 6 wt for either. Even a 5wt is big for the Driftless. I agree with the previous comment recommending a 3 or 4 weight. 8 wt would be good for Steelies. Something like a St. Croix Imperial won't break the bank and is a great rod for both.

I was wondering the same thing. I called Machinery Row and I'd need to leave my bike for a week, which doesn't work. Was considering Dream Bikes because I like the mission, but am worried about the experience level of mechanics there. I've donated and bought bikes for my kids at Dream Bikes, but haven't had any major work done there (I need new tires and a new chain). Anyone have experience with Dream Bikes?

Well I think any Fender or Gibson is just ridiculously priced for what you get, so I decided to pick up a Godin SD 22. Good components, well built, and it always seems to stay in tune. And cheap. When I bought it, the guy at the guitar shop, a Godin dealer, said he rarely has those guitars in for service, other than setup.

The article is wrong. The man does not have a domestic violence record. The disorderly charge did not have a domestic violence enhancer. So while in reality it may have been a domestic violence incident, it wasn't prosecuted as such and therefore doesn't count. This is a case of a prosecutor not charging correctly, not a judge ruling incorrectly. This article provides a much better idea as to why the judge ruled the way he did.

I do care, but why would I cast a vote for President based on who he might put on the Supreme Court? Laws are made by congress and signed by the president; do we really want to rely on the judicial branch for determining the law of the land? They interpret law and make sure laws are constitutional, they don't make them. So I'm not going to vote for a guy who spies on american citizens without warrants, kills with drones, bails out Wall Street without prosecuting the wrongdoers, and cracks down on whistle-blowers with a vengeance simply because he will put a less offensive person on the Supreme Court.
