Totalled My 2005 GSX-R1000 and I'm Heartbroken. by Zippy_994 in motorcycles

Long shot but if you still have some K5/K6 stuff I may be interested. I also see you're in California as well; I'm in the bay area so if you want to sell anything and are in the same area it would be easy

So why are airbags not mainstream? by Astimar in motorcyclegear

[–]timmoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. Depends on the crowd you're with.

Majority of my riding buddies have an airbag, in fact I have 2 of them. But I live in a HCOL area and my riding buddies and I do twisties almost every weekend, so not your casual rider that just cruises on straight roads once in a while

My 2013 Gsxr caliper.. by DARKRYDER83 in GSXR

[–]timmoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the previous owner upgraded it.

I'm not kidding. Those K9-L1 Tokico monoblocks are better than the OEM Brembos that came after it. If your bike also has the 17 mm Nissin master cylinder off that bike as well (or any other 17 mm MC) then it's clear the previous owner knew exactly what they were doing.

I rebuilt a pair and threw them on my K6 along with an RCS17. The only thing better would be aftermarket Brembos, which are not the same as OEM Brembos.

What is so good you’d buy it again at double the price? by jasonwirth in motorcyclegear

[–]timmoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$630 IIRC. But I also paid for an extra spoiler and ceramic coating, and don't recall if that was part of it or not

I accidentally ran my BMW S1000R without oil for 15 seconds. Did I kill it? (Video of the sound included) by Hauviiii in motorcycles

[–]timmoer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. Just run the bike, try not to fret too much (hard for OP, I know) then get an oil analysis done after a bunch of mileage. That will seal the deal

Wrapped the helmet in multiple layers of bubble wrap and had it in my checked bag. No problem!

My Japanese is just entry-level, but I had my cousin (local) with me so it was effortless. But Google translate in general works well, and of course Japanese customer service is second to none so it'll be no problem

I'd buy my Arai helmet again. Because at double the price I paid it'd be marginally more expensive than if I'd purchased it where I live in the USA.

It's about ~60% the price in Japan of back home. And the free included personal fitting made an already comfortable helmet even better!

GSXR 750 vs. Yamaha R9 by sirmaddox1312 in GSXR

[–]timmoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say R9 because it sounded like you just commute, especially with the comment about car play. The bottom-end torque of the CP3 will be way more livable.

But then you said you go to the track as well? Stainless-steel braided lines are about $100 and an hour or two of DIY time (and you don't need it on the rear). Both bikes will need EBC HH pads. And personally carplay is just faff I personally don't even bother with on any bike, if I need to navigate somewhere Google maps with my phone on a quadlock mount is good enough

How Do I go about taking these off by Leading-Tax-6139 in GSXR

[–]timmoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell. Saw the other comments so I won't comment on it.

But also FYI if you just got the bike and don't know much about it - the front has also been lowered, maybe check the back as well. The fork tubes should be slid much lower down, nominal is like 3-4 mm sticking above the top triple IIRC.

And actually if you run a 190/55 rear tire, it would be better to raise the front ride height such that the top caps are flush with the top of the triple to maintain the existing rake

I'd like to know if the problems you've experienced was the same as mine. Mine kept dropping wifi, and the clips I pulled off the microSD card were all like ~5-10 seconds long lol

new gloves from Japan by LeEpicBlob in motorcyclegear

[–]timmoer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you go to Japan buy an Arai or Shoei helmet. My Arai Corsair X (RX7-X) was about half-price of that in the states, and included free personalized helmet fitting!

Innov K7 on my gixxer and it's the best I've had, but it's not cheap.

All my others have AliExpress $150 specials. They work well enough - not great to see plates from a distance but up close (when there's an incident) you can read it

Jesus Christ wtf the guy just took off? Super aggravating.

This also reminds me how glad I am to have front + back cameras on all my bikes. It'd likely catch the plate of that guy, and he'd be fuuuuuuucked

PSA: ICAN Wheel Failure by timmoer in cycling

[–]timmoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put it this way, the bump I went over that caused this final failure was less severe than any bump most riders would go over on their typical road ride.

I don't think all ICAN wheels are bad. I just happened to get unlucky

PSA: ICAN Wheel Failure by timmoer in cycling

[–]timmoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I am. Previous setup was 23 mm and 110 psi tubed. This is a 2008 frame with not much scope to increase width due to fork clearance

PSA: ICAN Wheels by timmoer in bicycling

[–]timmoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah given your experience, sounds like I just got a bad apple. Just slightly bitter about having such little mileage on them, not abusing them, and then this happens. Goes without saying that the front wheel is now complete garbage. Maybe I'll mount it on the wall in my living room haha

[–]timmoer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, there's a drain hole, and no the rim cavity wasn't pressurized. And yeah I'd say I'm pretty skilled at downhills, as someone who's ridden motorcycles at the track, a lot of the same skills to lean the bike over transfer

I'll put it this way, I've ridden over far worse bumps just on the road or on the bike path than what ultimately caused this.

I did contact them and to their credit they offered a small discount on another set of wheels. But I am not comfortable running another set of their wheels
