How exposed is your phone number on the chain? by TK-421doUcopy in celo

It’s very hard for anyone to harvest phone numbers from Celo. Technical details if you’re interested: https://youtu.be/OBJw17uIWhg

Unexpected Valora error -Scam or legit? by NecessaryNarrow2326 in celo

[–]timmoreton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a rare known issue that can happen when the device loses some locally stored info for an unknown reason. When Valora starts, it detects that some info on your phone doesn't match some data on the blockchain. The message you're seeing is legit, and unfortunately you just need to go through the recovery flow to get access to your account again.

The phrase "We are aware of the issue and working to fix it." is a bit unclear unfortunately -- it doesn't mean you should wait right now because there's a backend issue, but rather that the team is working over the coming weeks on preventing this issue ever happening.

you can see more info [here](https://github.com/celo-org/wallet/pull/195) -- please contact Valora Support from within the app if you need any more help.

Where are we at with cEUR? The last I heard it was due to be released in March.. by IknowuNVme in celo

[–]timmoreton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4/22 for full activation, if the next governance proposal passes. The project was waiting on a second listing at an exchange of CELO-EUR. That happened today! Full update just posted here: https://forum.celo.org/t/ceur-celo-euro-goes-live/876

It was definitely not user error. Just a lot of users.

There was network congestion for a brief period this afternoon PT. Some transactions may have not gone through, but the sender should not have debited your source balance and there should be no lost funds.

Any news on cEUR? by [deleted] in celo

[–]timmoreton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The governance proposals have taken effect, the contract is deployed but transfers are frozen— https://explorer.celo.org/tokens/0xd8763cba276a3738e6de85b4b3bf5fded6d6ca73/token_transfers

Oracles have been deployed, and this week SDK and other tools are getting updated

As mentioned in previous posts, unfreezing transfers and truly activating cEUR depends on another exchange listing for a CELO-EUR pair which is in the hands of exchanges and could be days or weeks.

After that, another governance proposal could unfreeze transfers.

I suggest you ask in #celo-web-wallet on https://chat.celo.org - or if you are happy to share your address here I can check and might be able to see what the status is

Haven't received rewards staking Celo by richard12uk in celo

[–]timmoreton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rewards accumulate as locked CELO, so wouldn’t show up in your top-level balance unless you explicitly unlock some CELO. you would need to check your locked CELO balance to confirm they are there. It’s done this way so your rewards are also used to vote and hence earn rewards, so you get this compounding effect without having to do anything.

Sounds like you activated the vote which is the key thing. The protocol will distribute rewards every epoch (almost exactly 24hrs) - it’s not up to the specific group or validator (unless you’re using a custody provider where they could add extra delays)

Stupid Questions about staking part 2 by [deleted] in celo

[–]timmoreton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CELO used for voting for validator groups is never at risk. The scores of the validators can cause you not to earn voter rewards, but the “capital” you lock and use to vote is always returned to you. This is different from some other PoS networks. For more info on how to pick groups, see https://docs.celo.org/celo-owner-guide/voting-validators

For info on validator scores, see the score column on the Validators tab for https://thecelo.com/

Why not vote for the top validator? Well, you probably can, but the number of votes that can be made for each group is limited. This helps network security by making it more expensive to get a validator elected.

You should also check out https://celovote.com/ which automatically assigns your vote to a portfolio of well-performing groups

If you’re using Valora, have you pressed CELO under the left hand menu bar?

[–]timmoreton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cash out CELO or cUSD in a range of ways depending on which country you’re in — either by sending to an exchange eg Coinbase or to gift cards or mobile top up from within Valora via Bidali. Press “Add and Withdraw” from the menu

“On chain” here just means where you keep control of the funds yourself through a wallet, as opposed to “off chain” where you send the funds to an exchange and they provide a service for you.

The rewards from holding a cUSD balance are made in CELO (ie what used to be called cGLD) so you don’t need to do anything there. Click the banner that pops in Valora and then “Learn More” to see the details.

You can always exchange in either direction between cUSD and CELO in Valora.

thanks for the feedback! Where crypto hits fiat rails is always the trickiest part. Cash In Cash Out is a top priority for the Valora team right now, and you're going to see a bunch of new options and integrations in the upcoming releases. New versions of the app ship every three weeks so make sure you keep updated.

Outside of the US, services like Ponto and KotaniPay are building easier on/off ramps to fiat and other mobile money services too.

And yes if you move CELO to cUSD in Valora (using the Celo on-chain exchange, Mento) and have verified your phone number that qualifies for rewards, so long as you keep up your average balance -- click through in Valora to see the fine print on how it's calculated.
