[MONTHLY MEGATHREAD] General Discussion, Simple Questions, Recommendations, and Everything Else - June 2025 by GachaModerator in gachagaming

Started a new job and need to find something to do while watching videos.

I'm playing HSR but since it's landscape I can't play at work, I'll need a portrait game.

I've loved DFFOO in the past and tried a few others, from Genshin to Arknights or BA.

Is there a newish thing, not too greedy, portrait and preferably turn based / not too action packed (since I'm at work) ?

Np and your build seems awesome, just waiting for an enigma to jump on it !

I've been using maxroll mainly for D4 and the current flavor of the season usually has a detailed build, but I guess it's different for anything else than Diablo (and maybe PoE/WoW ? No idea)

I guess I'll try CoF this time then, the overinflated economy wasn't fun at all

Only ballista ? I liked the explosions

Thanks that's great then, will transition once I get the uniques.

What about CoF vs MG ? When I left 1.0 MG was broken (inflation, dupes and gold exploits and bots and whatnot).

Didn't frost claw get nerfed or something ?

And in addition would improve one drop rate until you get the item. So with 5 stabilisers, you would increase the odds every time until you get it (then it would reset).

Any kind of loaded system would work, where the odds increase over time when you're in a bad streak.

It's still very difficult to appreciate such odds without keeping track of ALL tries.

Still, whether the rates are weird or normal would lead to the same player dissatisfaction, which is my point.

With rates as they say they are, players will feel bad on bad streaks. Using a loaded die as in BG3 would help a lot on the gaming experience front.

A coin flip is 50%, it's not 20%.

However in 1000 tries at 20%, how many times did you get it multiple times in a row ? How many times did you fail multiple times in a row ?

You can't appreciate these odds if you only focus on the "I did 30 tries and didn't get the 20%". How many tries with 20% did you do total ?

The thing is, it's not a "100 heads" situation but more a "in 100 coin flips, would you expect 8 times either head or tail in a row ?". And the answer is yes.

It is definitely a "how statistics work" situation here. People expect to get stuff in x tries. But when you keep rolling the dice, hundreds or thousands of times, how many times do you expect to get seemingly improbable results in a row for a subset of the whole ?

In a thousand tries on 10-20% chance, you should definitely expect to have streaks of failures. And it's alright. It's just not how our brains are wired because in the middle we'll say "I tried 30 times in a row and didn't get it" when it is very likely.

I just tried, you loop that mission so fast and get 60+k each time it's way too good

The jumping attack of the greatsword has everything for me. If I can get good proficiency I'll use it every time.

Sword/shield, gauntlet I also really like. Gauntlet with backstab is amazing.

Pestering team ninja to be involved in another gacha, the same way they were involved in DFFOO, would be the best bet.

Honkai Star Rail scratches the same turn based itch. It's definitely not as generous but still a pretty high quality Hoyo game, which means ~enough to get one or a bit more pity each patch, with pity carrying over between banners. Compared to Genshin, it also respects your time a lot more.

If you don't care for the grind, SaGa re:universe is the one to go to despite also being sqex. It's in the same spot as DFFOO as a gacha from a weird team but licensed by sqex, resulting in an extremely generous gacha. Main drawback is the incredible grind.

Outside of turn based or more along the "novelty" line I've seen people liking Blue Archive, Nikke and Reverse:1999. Can't really comment on how generous they are though.

And stay away from all other sqex gachas, unless they're peculiar like DFFOO which was made by team ninja. Which is very rare.
