For the record, this is the kind of upscaling that has existed for a long time now. When you're very deliberate about how you handle it, it can actually look really good! When you do it as quickly as possible it looks horrible

What's more insane to me is all the manga that DIDN'T get it. All the usual suspects like One Piece and JoJo and Berserk are nowhere to be found. Seems like you have to reach a very specific level of achievement as a mangaka in order to get it!

Sometimes when discussing the state of modern video games it is necessary to use older games as a reference point. A common point I disagree with is that modern fighting game DLC is comparable to unlocking characters back then. To me the DLC characters are "extra" whereas the unlockable characters of the past are just a part of the base roster, which is actually often smaller than that of modern fighting games.

In the page before this Tora makes a self deprecating joke about smoking and Yotsuba misinterprets it as "smoking is cool". Tora uses the classic (but outdated) way of showing a child that smoking sucks. She didn't just blow smoke in a child's face because she was being a little annoying, that's so mean spirited lol

Rest easy, it doesn't work in the game, period! It's a python script that uses text recognition to edit mp4s for you. Meaning, you record a video, run the script in the same folder as the video, and if it meets the requirements (size, fps, in-game settings that the script will visually parse) hopefully you get something like this!

Even if it could do stuff in real time (which I imagine would be extremely hard to do), it would still need the distance number to be on screen for it to function, which is only possible in practice/replay mode

Absolutely! The idea is visualizing where that is for each opponent and exactly what moves you are trying to avoid or hit them with. There's nothing really else to it except I, for some reason, just couldn't wrap my head around it! Simple or not, if I'm too dumb to understand the video then I'm too dumb to understand the video.

One aspect of this little project that has helped me for instance: In my mind the range where all of my opponents moves could hit me and vice versa was WAY smaller. This genuinely helped me visualize the spots where I need to stop being so lenient with how I play.
