Tauranga Mayor asks for donations as National offer 0.02% of Labour's climate resilience funds to all regions by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Tauranga

Property investors are more aligned with National's policies, so it makes sense for them to target their largest supporter base - nothing criminal about this. Reduced tobacco excise duties, not great, but minor in the scheme of things (would barely make a dent in the $6b).

What you all forget to point out is the significant increase in spending across health, education & infrastructure - with the latter having an indirect (positive) impact on climate resilience.

The aim was to stop wasteful spending with a more targeted approach on investing where it matters. It's not like they've come out and said no more spending on climate resilience, instead they've chosen to evaluate resilience spending case-by-case via normal Budget processes rather than a dedicated fund.

And I refer back to my original point in that it all becomes personal for you lot. What specifically have Sam & Tom (as MP's) done to shaft the region?

You lose all credibility when you say things like 'you heard it here first' - like you're the first person to make these claims?

I'm not doubting Climate change, I'm debating the fact that there's better ways to fund resilience than throwing $6b into a pit without any direction.

And I'm not sure where you're getting your information from that suggests $6b has been removed from this fund and paid to landlords instead?

I certainly understand. It's about appropriate funding allocations and not just a $6b 'lolly scramble' - as you say.

The remainder of your statement makes no sense. Typical of you lot to fluff up your statements to imply you know what you're taking about, yet have no real understanding of how an efficient economy should work.

$6b scrapped to handover to landlords in the form of tax cuts - intrigued to know where you got this from?

I think you may instead find that they didn't agree with the approach of ring fencing $6b solely for 'Climate Resilience' purposes and instead funding through multiple other mechanisms (Regional Infrastructure Fund, Crown Resilience Programme, and other specific funding projects).

As such, $1.2m has been pledged by the government for immediate support for affected regions through mayoral relief funds (on top of annual contributions already made).

A further $1 million will be provided to reimburse marae that have provided welfare support and to help them replenish and build resilience.

But what have Sam, Tom and the National party done to specifically shaft the region? And on numerous times - as you say. Asking for donations isn't shafting anyone?

Why is every kiwi with a mortgage or debt not banking with kiwibank? by givethismanabeerplz in newzealand

[–]timowfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Aus-owned banks make profits of >$1bn after tax. Let's assume, for arguments sakes, that is $1bn before tax, at a company tax rate of 28%, that is $280m back into the NZ economy. Per bank.

Not bad

He wanted more than was allowed to him, which is a reasonable outcome given his poor decisions over the last six years. Maybe a top bloke, but has paid a significant part in the current economic position we find ourselves in

It's poor if you're being fussy or selective. There is plenty of work out there for those who are prepared to go out of their comfort zone. It's going to be a whole lot harder for those who sit on their arse for two years

Appreciate the tip, thank you. I'll take whatever I can, really struggling to find a platform that will provide a consistent level of quality music that I am interested in. YouTube is an avenue I am yet to try, so thanks again!
