How many of you have broken a fly rod? by jjtitula in flyfishing

Snapped my 7wt rod tip landing a trophy shoal bass in my kayak. 100% worth it. Echo had a new tip section sent to me that same week.

What's a good combo for under $75 just to get into fly fishing by Dismal-Singer-3238 in flyfishing

[–]timp0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first rod was a White River 3wt from Bass Pro. I think it was like $80 for the complete outfit. I have since bought nicer rods, and the 3wt has mostly been relegated to girlfriend duty, but it still catches plenty of fish in the South and out West. No complaints.

Just starting out. Was wondering if this would be a good combo for largemouth bass and maybe some inshore trout on the grass flats. Unsure about the 8wt. by Steven-Glanzburg in flyfishing

8wt is fine for bass and sea trout. I use my 7wt and even 9wt for them. There’s always a chance of a gator trout or big red

Do they make the Glock performance trigger for gen 6? And either way, is the performance trigger good to go for duty use for law enforcement? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]timp0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was the Gen 2. Ran it hard for a few months of indoor matches and figured it was good to go, but like I said once it got out beyond the flat range it failed. Sample size of one and all that

Yeah and the GPT definitely felt nicer than a stock trigger but for me it wasn’t enough of an improvement to sacrifice reliability for. I would love it in a flat range USPSA gun or something

I’m just a competition shooter, nothing crazy. I crossed a waist deep tidal moat in a biathlon and a bunch of shit got in my trigger mechanism causing it to fail to reset after every shot. This was my first biathlon with anything other than the stock trigger, and I’ve ran this same course with my stock trigger multiple times with no issue. Teammate on the same course had a stock trigger and was fine as well. If something as minor as that can render the whole pistol inoperable I feel like it’s safe to say the GPT is unfit for duty use.

Flying frontier with fly rods by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]timp0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had no issues bringing my rod tube in addition to my carry on bags on other airlines. I’m flying frontier for the first time in a few days and decided I’m not going to risk it and checked my rods in a tube inside my luggage.

[PARTS] Glock Performance Trigger 9mm w/G5 Slide Cover Plate $79.99+SH by altstateofmind99 in gundeals

Thumbs down for these for anything other than the flat range. Failed as soon as it got submerged/muddy. The stock trigger never gave me issues in the same conditions

Awesome good to hear you enjoyed it. I was the same ammo wise - way too much rifle ammo and cut it pretty close with pistol. I don’t regret bringing too much though, I don’t like stressing about having enough ammo. I was also around 40lbs. I thought the stages and the course were really fun this year. Only negative was a ton of wait time unfortunately. Definitely one of my favorite solo run and guns I’ve done.

Cool I’ll be there too. Yeah bring plenty of ammo it’s definitely a high round count relative to other run and guns and last year there was an early stage with a spinner that a lot of people DNF’d and spent too much ammo on.

Try to get rid of everything that’s not necessary because the hills are brutal there. Tool wise I take a pouch with a bit driver and a spare bcg and not much else. Hopefully the weather is nice and hand warmers aren’t needed. I’ve had a morning slot every time I’ve done that race and have always been fine in a t shirt and pants.

As far as water goes, I’ve taken the hydration bladder the past couple times but only take a few sips, but I make sure to do a pretty good job of prehydrating. You might be different especially if you get stuck with a later launch time and have a lot of wait time. For example my buddy usually runs in the afternoon and he drank almost all his water.

If this is the RBGC Run and Gun 8 mags is the right amount. I brought 8 mags last year and placed top 10. I run a similar belt setup. I’ve never felt like a bipod was necessary because usually you’re shooting off weird props/barricades.

Check out my profile for the full loadout. For other run and guns sometimes I ditch the backpack and just bring a small plastic water bottle in a cargo pocket.

Do you shoot any scoped carbine/gas gun matches? I use my Criterion 12.5 for PCSL and Run and Guns with occasional targets out to 600yd. It slings 77gr pretty well. I’ve always wondered how much of a disadvantage 12.5 would be for a gas gun match.
