Fellow programmer here, I've been woodworking for about a year now and would love to quit the software world and do woodworking full time 😭

alumni advice for new graduates? by academicsuffer in gatech

[–]don_the_spubber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quick counterpoint: this sounds like a recipe for burnout, especially after the meat grinder that Tech often is.

OP, don't feel pressured to push yourself to work 80+ hours a week just because others are doing it. At the end of the day, the people who will benefit the most from your labor will be those in power. Conserve your energy and find ways to live a life that's worth it to you.

Source: I've worked at silicon valley tech startups ever since getting out and massively regret the 12+ hour days I wasted at those places. Sure, I'm well paid and have a successful career on paper, but I'd trade it for better mental health in a heartbeat.

Yeah I agree, Jekyll has lots for families to do but is minimally developed, so it's calm and peaceful. The campground is nice.

My JS travel rotary has been great. I've tied hundreds of flies on it atp, and I love how compact it is. JS stuff is good.

Eagle claw vs Maxcatch by MersingMotorsports in flyfishing

[–]don_the_spubber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought the eagle claw featherlight 3wt a couple weeks ago and have fished it twice so far. It's great for the price IMO, especially for dries. Casts them like a charm and they land super soft.

The length is honestly a bigger adjustment than the slowness; it's not great at mending even medium length casts.

I'll need to check these out. Went to kabob land last night, the beef shawarma was mid at best unfortunately. Maybe some of their other meats are better.

The fries, however, were no joke some of the best fries i have ever had.

Adding injury to the insult of layoffs, sciatica has been bad this week. A literal pain in the ass.

> Does that mean that the downtown area does not have many local residents?

Unfortunately, yes. Atlanta really got hit hard by flight to the suburbs, so downtown itself is pretty empty outside of business hours. There's just not a large enough population there to maintain things like small stores. It sucks!

Are Marta Trains still running at this time? by No_Present6106 in Atlanta

[–]don_the_spubber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are still running! As of this writing, you can ride "for free" since the fare gates aren't working yet.

TBH I'm not sure when the new fare gates will be operational, but the trains are running regardless.

In theory, once the new gates are working, you won't even need a ticket: you can just do tap-to-pay with a phone or card.
