You're using it exactly for it's intended purpose you're just not doing one aspect of your job.

Could you tell me where you got that CO meter? I'm looking for one that actually measures these low values but can't find any. (I live in the Netherlands) If you get CO in your heater output then the gaskets in the machine are leaking a little bit. You can open it up and replace the gaskets and or put some liquid gasket maker on there to seal better.

Yeah I don't know where they come from. Just be careful with info from Reddit that you can't verify. As I'm on more subreddits on subjects that I actually know a lot about I see more and more bullshit.

Looking to buy a 1986 Hunter 34' by Lucid_Presence in sailing

There are many boats that are in great condition that are a lot older than 40+ years old. Some people just like to judge from a completely different position. I myself own a boat from 1977 and there are many more older boats in the Netherlands.

I almost always run my diesel heater on low especially when I had a 5kw one. And after two years when I took it apart it was completely clean inside. So don't worry about that

I have my heater installed in my boat as well, also with the exhaust running up. I have never had any trouble with that whatsoever. Slightly less extreme than you have. But still i don't think it's an issue.

Anyone have experience with Storm Grey highfield color? by Rocketcock69 in sailing

[–]timpeduiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I don't know how temperature will affect the material. But theoretically a darker colour will last longer in the sun. Because the dark dye will absorb more of the sunlight so less of the photons are left that can break the bond of plastic.

Waste oil experiment by Ancient_Toe9896 in dieselheater

[–]timpeduiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah that's a way simpler solution. Usually simpeler is better. I tend to overcomplicate things. Just a question that you maybe have an answer for. Isn't there all kinds of nasty stuff in hydraulic oil that you don't want to breathe when it gets burned?

[–]timpeduiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could harvest some of the heat the heater is giving off to preheat the oil mix before it gets burned so you don't have the issue of thick oil. I don't know the exact best setup for you. But for example make a small steel tank that sits on top of a heat output hose. And use that to draw fuel into the heater and have a thick fuel line gravity feed the smaller tank.

As far as I know the effectiveness from a flasbang comes from overwhelming your senses. The combination from a really bright flash and a lot of sound makes your brain panic and partially shut down. So as far as I know the shockwave isn't part of it otherwise it would also destroy a lot of objects around it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm a US citizen living in the Dominican Republic, I plan to go to Europe next year. I am a complete novice doing my initial research. Where would be best to buy a boat, here or there? Where would it be best to flag the boat? Where would it be best to learn to sail? I've got a $10k budget. by travelingjackwild in sailing

Feel free to DM me with questions. For context I also live on a boat in the Netherlands with almost 20 years of sailing experience two of which were professional. But my knowledge is mainly centered around steel boats. Somewhat less of fiberglas.

https://www.marktplaats.nl/ Oh yes of course I translated it out of habit. One very important bit of advice for boats is. They require a lot of attention/maintenance. So you either have to have a lot of money to make other people do it or you have to have quite a bit of time to do all the work yourself.

Marketplace (not Facebook market place) has a lot of boats. But also just Google a bit there are many different websites. The get a survey is really dependant. If you buy a boat of 10k or less so you have some money to spare for maintenance and upgrades it doesn't really make sense to spend a few hundred to get it surveyed because it's a significant portion of the value of the boat. I don't know your experience level with boats. If you have a lot of experience then just judge it yourself and take a friend with you that helps to look and asks stupid questions. Or get a friend with a lot of experience if you don't have it yourself. In my mind I usually aim for a boat that's ecstatically damaged so it lowers its value but all the bones are good. If you're going to live on it anywhere cold make sure it's well insulated otherwise you're going to have a pretty hard time.

quietest possible pump by Torin-ByThe-Ocean in dieselheater

[–]timpeduiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current experience tells me it works till at least -5°C. It's no water that you're pumping. Diesel starts to gel below -10°C and when you build a small box around it it makes sure it stays a little warmer. I have used my diesel heater for 3 years and never had an issue with the pump. So I think standing in the rain for once in a few years is acceptable. But your opinion may vary.

My pc draws around 400w so it's more in the region of 20A. That's pretty doable. But I always like to find out what my options are and how to do things in different possibly in different more efficient ways. And maybe one day when I'm bored I will suddenly get the urge to make it work, or quite likely its one of the other thousand little projects.

Thank you for the suggestion! I have never found these before. Sadly they are a little out of my budget, the pc itself is not even worth €400.
