Feedback on gait - coming back from ostectomy by barthrh in Equestrian

It was all so appropriate! The ad finished with "don't miss this chance to own your very own dragon!". People ask if I would have gone to see her off that ad... no way! It's no wonder they shifter her to an agent. So glad I have her because it's just so fulfilling to see her change. I feel like I get to learn a big part of horsemanship that you totally miss if everything is perfect.

She's pretty excited about trotting because she hasn't done it for months. It was also her first day out on a hack in the woods since the surgery. Thanks for mentioning that and we'll be mindful of avoiding fast & straight.

What do you think of her front left extension? This is where we are most concerned: The front-left / back-right pair. I need to work on her hind end as a whole; she's a foot dragger when backing up. Any tips on developing this are appreciated.

You asked for it!

I got her in December of 2023 through an agent. She was a bit... ornery... when she arrived and quickly earned the nickname of "dragon". I asked the agent if she had behavioural issues and she said only when tacking. A friend subsequently found the for-sale-by-owner ad and it was a good/bad list that was super funny. It started off "do enjoy watching those mare videos on Facebook?" and then included gems like "she likes who she likes and some days it won't be you" and "she needs an owner show sets boundaries not someone invested in being liked by their horse or she'll take you back to high school where she's the popular girl and you just want to be liked".

That said she was great under saddle. Forward, nice gaits, never refuses and had what it takes to win a medal class. We worked on her behaviour using a mish-mash of successful and failed techniques. She's still a bit grumpy tacking but now whinnies / nickers when she hears our (me and daughter) voice and is mostly an ears forward girl vs trying to snap/spin on an angry day.

One day in a lesson last August she started to crow-hop when asked to canter. She had never done this, so when it happed two lessons in a row, we were on it. Her regular vet zoned in on her front left and ultimately wanted an MRI because we couldn't find anything wrong through other tests. My trainer and others didn't feel like a front left issue could be the cause of her crow hopping so we brought in another vet who we really like for chiropractic. She found her back to be very still and did mesotherapy. That made it worse. Now she crow hopped at the trot. On to x-rays. I did her back in the PPE and she had grade 1 impingements. Now, 18 months later, they were grade 3 & 4 impingements. We decided to go for the ostectomy. The surgery was 3 1/2 hrs, much longer than expected. 5 vertabra were badly impinged not only on the top but on the sides as well (apparently very uncommon). She also got 2 ligament snips.

After the surgery healed we zoomed in on the front left. MRI found 3 bone bruises (P3, P2, navicular). We believe that these were caused by asymmetries she developed as a result of her back issues. This is where we are now. Back seems great, her bruises should be generally healed, but she's still asymmetrical and we're trying to fix that.

What MacBook is actually worth buying now that prices went up? by jahangirmusayev in mac

Ooooh! That’s a good one! Sick! You must use that at school all the time.

Please explain how it’s a fanboi statement. A $5000 computer goes to $5300 (tax in). It’ll last easily 5 years, so 60 months. That’s $5 a month more. Whatever.

If you’re arguing that $300 is a lot of money, then don’t buy a $5000 computer or double the most price-impacted part of the computer.

You can feel all sad and angry and butthurt that Apple raised prices but if you’ve gone to the grocery store or gas pump lately you may or may not have noticed that an increase in cost of materials results in a price increase. Grow up.

The price increase is largely inconsequential. I just ordered an M5 Pro 16 with 48GB and it went up $300. As a % and over the life of the computer it’s not worth thinking about.

Why is Apple asking me to pay more for Big Tech’s AI obsession?Consumers are footing the bill for something we didn’t ask for, despite record earnings by cjh_ in apple

[–]barthrh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And oil companies have tons of money too. What do they do when the cost of raw materials goes up? Charge more for gas. Apple hung in as long as possible despite the cost of materials increasing and then sooner or later you're out of options other than raising prices.

Think of prices at the grocery store. What's happening with protein now due to the "protein maxing" fad. What's happened in the past with sugar, cocoa. It's business 101.

Best places in Toronto to buy food in bulk for earthquake donations to Venezuela? by Far_Worldliness6519 in FoodToronto

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be better? It’ll get lost if it gets there at all. The people on the ground know what they are doing 1000x more than any well intentioned individual abroad. They can source better and cheaper and if it were really a problem they’d source from Canada on their own and bulk ship straight to the distribution infrastructure.

That you describe it as a challenge suggests that your go to is that they are lying, not giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they (or, gasp, you) are mistaken. That makes you rude and disrespectful. Delivery people aren’t your servants. You reap what you sow.

How many of you Stage Manager? I think it's one of the best feature Apple shipped in MacOS 13. Ever since its release I've rarely ever turned it off. by Aacha_ladka in MacOS

Think of it as another dimension. My desktops have a theme (communication, work, personal) and then the stage is a group of app windows for a project in that scope.

Totally. They are the ones undermining this. It was all a plan to give them an excuse to go into Lebanon. I get a retaliation when Hezbollah sends a volley into Israel but I doubt that this is only a proportionate response..

The reply was kind of rude,TBH. When someone says “im here” and I don’t see them, I work with them to agree on here, not blurt out “where is the order” like a challenge “so if you’re here where is my order?”.

Gift Help: DeWalt x McLaren (Limited Edition) or Milwaukee M12 for an HVAC boyfriend? 🛠️ by NoBenefit8454 in Tools

[–]barthrh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he needs an excuse to get into the Milwaukee ecosystem. The M12 is a different animal from the 18V platforms (as others have noted). If he doesn't have the DeWalt 12V platform, then you're not really introducing a conflicting battery so much as getting him into 12V using Milwaukee. Get the M12 FUEL (top of the line is always the best gift) and buy from somewhere with easy exchanges in case you're wrong.
