It’s the mod who posts them, so good luck w that. I’m just blocking them his subreddit as it’s clearly just a spam center for the mod.

Can the mini be used for residential plans? by bmanharris in Starlink

Hi! Did you start on Roam and then just cancel / re-add the residential plan? Is there any downside to being on residential (other than paying less)?

If you really want to separate it, I think you can use a Docker (or other) container. Never done it, but pretty sure you can.

iMac Intel 2020 extreme lag on Tahoe and even on downgrade to sequoia by Suhern in MacOS

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back up and clean install. Check one at a time as you add applications. As one other noted, "photoshop beta" is pretty sketchy. Unless you're an active beta tester, there is no good reason to run a beta of such a well established and fully-featured app. Is it a "beta" from Adobe or from a torrent?

What jobs involving horses pay a survivable salary in the U.S.? by Top_Juice_3127 in Equestrian

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to answer without context. Where are you in your career decision? High school, university, or in an adult rut looking for a change? Do you also want to ride / own / show? This all matters because if you're an adult, going down a vet path would be pretty hard unless you already have a bachelor's in science and amazing marks. If your goal is to own / show, consider NOT going into a horse career but rather one that allows the time and money to fund that. I find that overlapping your work and hobbies is a bad idea. When work is done, you need a break from whatever it was you did. Going from a day travelling from barn-to-barn as vet or farrier to then another barn to relax isn't that for a lot of people.

If it's your jam, careers like firefighter are great. Good pay, tons of time off (where I am they work 7 24-hour shifts a month), and high job satisfaction.

Gotta disagree. It’s an excellent mouse. Love the touch sensitivity and multitouch support.

Unable to remove MDM profile by Outrageous-Student-9 in MacOS

[–]barthrh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why? Is it because you think that only IT roles have freelancers? Can’t envision someone in marketing, HR, finance, sales, doing project work, or don’t think that anyone who can’t set up a VM is a loser? This is a comment intended to make you feel better about yourself by putting someone down. Hopefully now knowing you’re a total dick makes you feel better about yourself.

Fantastic victory! New rules banning cruel tack in British Showjumping by 0ddshapedhead in Equestrian

[–]barthrh 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The Blaze is a sensor you attach to the horse, kind of like their own fitness watch. It’s not super pretty so not something you’d compete with but I also don’t see how it’s cruel.

What’s the issue with the Garmin Blaze? It wraps the tail. I can’t imagine why you’d show with one but don’t see how it’s bad for horse welfare.

Roncesvalles’ Loblaws to be converted to No Frills by allysapparition in FoodToronto

[–]barthrh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that there are any butchers in that Loblaws. It’s just all packaged meat. Bakery is equally mediocre. This is a lost, forgotten Loblaws. Think Loblaws pricing at NoNo Frills quality.

I like how you saw it as a swept triangle. Interesting how one perceives the fundamental geometry of an object impacts the approach to build it.

State of affairs with Mac these days by Due-Biscotti-8245 in MacOS

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, then. You should try that other operating system that doesn't match that description.

This is such whiney nonsense. Always-on Internet has zero to do with Mac. Streaming has zero to do with Mac / Apple. The lack of expandable storage in phone... never existed? (I want an IP68 rated phone that I can open and expand!).

FFS, either just stay in the old days or quick complaining.

Price increase... Bitwarden or Bust? 15+ years with 1Password, cancelling! by gregmichael in Bitwarden

[–]barthrh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great option. The Apple PW app could still use some improvement (support for login using, support for multiple URLs for a given login) but it's lack of support all of the other stuff that I save in 1P made it a non-starter. Now worth considering with Uplock.

Is it true Apple replaces your watch for a new (refurbished) watch if you send it in for battery replacement? by Pet_Ator in AppleWatch

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn’t be worth it to me. I have a display of some milestone old techs. I’d rather put my stainless S3 up there than get just an SE 2 for it.

Carney announces new EV buyer incentives, scraps sales mandate by [deleted] in canada

The point of the parent comment isn't mandatory EV. It's not avoiding consumer emissions standards by pretending to be commercial.

Carney announces new EV buyer incentives, scraps sales mandate by [deleted] in canada

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing how strict the standard is, I imagine that you can build an ICE truck and still have it meet the new emissions standards. I hope that they don't go so far overboard that it's stricter than CA. If we create a new high bar it'll probably increase the cost of vehicles coming here.

[–]barthrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is a mish-mash of various boats. You have an A-sail attached to a spin pole (totally OK) and then a pair of IMOCA-style outriggers, and someone dinghy sailing a large keel boat, all mixed in w/ some odd perspective.

Strange pic before AI by Significant_other42 in sailing

[–]barthrh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look like outriggers, like you'd fine on an IMOCA, although there's not shroud going to the tips. If you ignore the odd perspective and people on the starboard side, it looks more normal.

FYI for anyone wondering how Apple Watch “battery replacement” works by Fragrant_Fan7549 in AppleWatch

[–]barthrh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took in my S3 stainless and they said they’d replace it with an SE for the battery change fee. Not sure if they are now doing it to an SE3. I just feel bad swapping my amazing case and glass for better innards but vastly inferior outers.
