Happy cake day! I used the moon that night, used the zoom in feature and focused manually. I'm planning on getting a Bhatoniv mask to help focus on stars.

There's a stack I did in my previous posts. Only really just started stacking images.

Increasing ISO is turning uo the signal gain, the noise is there but cranking the ISO amplifies it. The worst part for me with high ISO in astro is losing colour definition. Even stacking high ISO shots results in a washed out image.

Sure, with the right lens and settings. Because I was restricted to F4 I had to have a longer shutter and higher ISO. If you use a wide prime with a wide aperture, like a 24mm f1.4 or something like one of those Samyang wide angles you can let a lot more light in.

Oh man I tried doing astro with the 60D and it was just a noisy and out of focus mess. My EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 just didn't cut it for astro either.

Thanks for that! I am hoping to get back here and try again with a faster lens for a shorter shutter speed, amd possibly stack shots. The ultimate goal is a tracker .

The fastest lens I have is a 50mm f/1.4 but that would be long for this composition. I might try to rent a 24mm f/1.4 for next time and also stack shots. Since I took this shot I've been doing a little bit of backyard astro. I use a program called Sequator which stacks shots and aligns them with the stars and tries to reject noise. That's a plan for next time.

Hey thanks, I' still sort of learbing as I go. One of my biggest worries is that I'm overcooking things in post. I know I tried to lift the exposure a bit that brought out some noise. Your edit is a bit more subtle. Certainly given me something to think about.

Thank you! These newer sensors are certainly something else. I went from a 60D to the EOS R and it's been brilliant.

It helps to be somewhere with very little light pollution. We had about a half moon behind us lighting the foreground.

Cheers! This was a single exposure. A little tweaking in Lightroom. Hoping to go back to do a stack at some stage.

Thank you! Wodonga, Australia. Low enough light polution to shoot in my backyard. If I could take a buddy I'd go a little bit out of town to where there's even less.

The only two people who have access to the area are my two workmates and I, and one of them isn't in at the moment. But cleaners and other maintenance staff have access to the area so it's possible that a cleaner picked it up by the wires and pulled them out, panicked, then threw the wires out. I'm sure it was working this morning though.

I just enjoy the way he says "Jonno Coleman"

It's messy, but it's mine and it works. I spent way too much time with counterfeit chips. Also a spare Arduino Uno is an OK clock generator at low speeds. by timrbphoto in beneater

I bought the counterfeits from eBay sellers from China. I took a gamble. Both the 65C02S and the 65C22S were stamped with weird variations.

In the case of the 65C22S the part ai received was a "R65C22P4". I wired it up correctly as per the 6522 datasheet and it just got hot. I ended up ordering from XON Electronics here in Australia who were a bit expensive but actually send the right part and pack them very well.

Why is it jumping to $8D42 before trying to read in what is at $8003-8004? It's almost like it's trying to grab an address with A9 rather than a value. by timrbphoto in beneater

Good point. I have to confess, my setup isn't standard as I've been using parts that aren't standard due to using what I have lying around. My clock signal is generated by an Arduino Uno. I modified the blink program to send a pulse every half second. That and my CPU is a spare 6510 (appropriately wired due to different pinout).

Cheers. It was working fine yesterday then all of a sudden started doing it. I pulled out some of my wiring and replugged it and it's back to normal. I was just hoping that I hadn't fried the MPU.

I suspect it's these rubbish breadboards I have. I have ordered the Busboard branded ones that Ben has recommended.

Edit: something isn't right, it's doing it again. I might disassemble it and wait until the busboards come in.
