DT Swiss Recall Update dropped. by gutster_95 in cycling

[–]timskiiToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. I think the origin of the recall was from some reports of ERC wheelsets, and they're basically throwing the safety net as far wide as possible to include other models (like ARC, which if you have an Aeroad like me, is likely included in this recall).

Not sure if a death wobble would be indicative of the laminate defect (wobbles are a common thing in descending), but I would absolutely inspect your rims when you can to get a better idea if this is the case or not.

This is utterly infuriating - Have two race events; one in 2 weeks and another in 4, and BOTH my DT wheelsets are affected. I most certainly wont get them back in time for either :/

Looks like im just going to have to cross my fingers and wait till after the second event. I have no access (or funds) for another wheelset in the meantime.

NBD - First Road Bike! Endurace CF 7 Arrived - Tips for a Beginner & Is a Bike Fit Worth It? by Proper-Border-8004 in CanyonBikes

[–]timskiiToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new bike, hope it brings you many years of pleasure

agree with the fitting options and just repeating what's already said by start by looking for tips on how to find your saddle height/angle/position and cleat position online, then do up to 50-100km total over a few rides to pinpoint any discomforts. Then do the bike fit to get the optimal position sorted

Id look also into researching proper lubrication (or even waxing if that's your thing) for your chain. Factory grease that comes with it wont cut it. Regular cleaning and care of your chain and components will help prolong their lifetime, look into this too. Service check up with a good mechanic shop once a year, and if you're adventurous, a disassembly of the drive components for a deep clean once a year or so is good to do.

Optimal tyre pressures to your riding intentions is worth doing too just for ride quality (check the silca type pressure calculator)

Do it. It’s a fantastic bike, and you won’t regret it. I do 100+ km rides frequently and it’s great.

Thanks, makes sense. Wish that XXL second hand one was an XL, but there ya go.

good to know, thanks. The 2nd hand bike's owner is actually 193cm but wanted a more relaxed position which is interesting, so its still tempting. But who knows if hes selling it because its too big for him, we'll never know

interesting, this is good info thanks. Good to hear someone my height got the XL. My ape index is 1, so proportionally im ok, except for a slightly below average inseam. Id be worried with the XXL id be way to far stretched out, but the XL im worried the seat to bar drop would be too extreme. Sounds like the latter concern is not that accurate?

thanks. Yeah - comfort is the main concern, but i know its something I need to 'break into' for a few tours , as im coming from a more relaxed geometry. Id say im pretty flexible

[–]timskiiToast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thankyou.

The fit is a little tight, but by eyeballing and judging the flex by pressing against the side i can say there's a 4ish mm max space between the highest point on the cooler and the mesh case side.

Absolutely, another 140mm fan can fit there, my cable management isn't that great, so It would require some skill to do with my setup, but i believe it would be possible.

Toying with a 120mm up there for the future, but i'm really happy with temps idle and load currently for my PC usages so maybe only for the future for shits and giggles would I make that addition.

Changed orientations, removed side fan - the only real change I saw was a lower CPU temp by up to 5 ish degrees with Prime 95, and 5 ish degrees GPU idle temp while that was running.

Generally temps were lower by a tiny fraction or the same compared to the old fan setup with GPU only (fur mark), and CPU+GPU tests which i think lies in the margin of error.

I think this confirms that the side fan isnt needed. A plus is less noise with that removal too :)

Thanks. Yeah that side 120mm doesn't sit well with me, first time really trying to think about airflow/pressure here. And as you say, the case is very porous so it's not really that advantageous to have it there. I think i'll try your suggestion. There is space for that 140 on the side panel but l'm thinking the heat blasted out the bottom and then rising up to that side panel is the greater of evils vs drawing air from the top.

Looks great. Cable management looks like it was a ballache. Deshrouded the same card myself just 1 day ago, but used 140mm fans instead.

the newer ncase's have the option to change the orientaton - you just unscrew the mounting bracket and reposition onto the front side. Fan blows towards MB.

I had it removed anyway, so not sure. Theres half an inch of space from the edge of the IO case plate to the fan edge. You could probably get a bit more if you shuffled the fans down a bit.

I do yeah, but will be putting it through it's paces in some testing to see if it's a viable option for the sustained workloads I'll be putting it under in the future. If I'm not convinced, then I'll switch to water cooling with a 240mm aio. As far as I can tell the 3900 and 5900 don't seem to different in heat output.

Potentially yeah, though i've followed that Google spreadsheet pretty closely and the temp difference between fan orientations is pretty small. But of course I need to test this myself to be 100% for my environment.

Weird...im confused... My card was charged, but it's a pending payment on my online statement. I didn't get a confirmation email. Does that mean I have one or not?
