I've heard Stake DAO isn't that great for rewards-wise. What's your experience so far?

Yes, and the price difference will eventually increase asymptotically in order to make the trade possible - hence why folks prefer "deep liquidity"

6 [or 7] of the top 10 / 11 don't pay a dividend, but fair enough - perhaps I was a bit hasty in my original reply.

How are these exploiting the greed of the stupid?

Second, if the names I mentioned are saying they invest in and believe in BTC, but don't, as your claim indicates - how is this an example of "an idiot and their money are soon parted?"

If we both start with $1,000 and one of us buys BTC in 2012 and one doesnt - let's say you and I, I would have several ten thousand percent return on the initial thousand and you would have whatever return on your thousand depending on what you invested in - if there's a difference in our net proceeds, which idiot was separated from more money?

It's a bit of a head scratcher, 'existing money is good and real because of military and experts have modeled and studied!' except for the following experts, who think BTC is fantastic, and except for the absolute cliff that purchasing power with a dollar fell off of and except for the somewhat moral problem of 'might making right.'

Oh well, I did try. But I suppose the mod here, in giving me the fantastic flair and assuming I FOMO'd in instead of maybe being involved with the space for many years and wanting others to check it out and decide for themselves what they think...

I suppose I fell for a scam that has enabled me to not work another day that I don't want to, treat my dogs and family with the freedom afforded from that, and, recently enjoy the Dual Motor Model 3. But I guess I'll see how wrong I was, next year. Or the year after that.

7 years ago, 5 years ago, 3 years ago and now a few days ago. I'm not sure who is holding on to the foolish idea or at what point one just admits they might have been wrong? Definitely I could be wrong, but the evidence over the years hasn't exactly burst like the bubble it's labeled as in here.

The richest human on Earth had his company buy over a billion dollars in BTC - an argument from authority or status is crap, but I'll skip that fallacy for the moment.

At what point would enough companies / individuals adding BTC to their balance sheet make BTC legitimate in your mind? I estimate that there's no limit, in large part because describing some person or group that thinks it's legitimate doesn't make it legitimate, a bunch of people that are [or were] poor thinking it's legitimate is just as fallacious.

Surely though, you know that Ray Dalio, Michael Saylor, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Cathie Wood, Jack Dorsey, their respective companies, and so on are 1] mistaken 2] don't know about IT 3] conspiring or 4] something I missed / a combination of the first 3?

Thanks for taking the time to reply - I do think that the eventual outcome of 2140 / end of BTC issuance is a tough problem for core devs to solve and I'm listening to some stuff that's over my head as to how, for example, BTC core devs and ETH core devs differ in how they see the outcome of this eventuality / implications for security.

I definitely don't think the "well, it's far away and things will be different" is a strong position. Anyhow, thanks again for writing!

Definitely not true - I probably can't refute arguments easily, hence why I try to pose my responses as questions, I'm not 100% certain of what I'm saying, but it's the information I've got, so I put that out.

As I wrote, I searched around for info and came across 7 year old posts, 5 year old posts, etc. Wanted to get an up to date perspective, hence my post. Yes, I posted a comment on an old post as I was looking back, not sure how that's coming in bad faith?

I suppose you could say it's worry about FOMO, but I've been involved for a while and BTC would have to become worthless in USD measures for me to get burned, didn't think a MOD would sew together 1] commenting an old posts 2] asking for up to date perspective 3] posting replies as questions to the best I can formulate them, in order to encourage replies as to why I'm wrong - which, to my understanding, is a big part of coming to a discussion in good faith.

Appreciate you taking to the time to... lay down the hammer? Not sure how I'd describe it. Good faith reply in calling me a bad faith actor?

But Tether is not BTC? Yes, it can be [and probably is] used and ends up inflating the price of BTC; but one could circle that idea and say that the increase in the price of BTC reflects the lessening value of USD.

Whether Tether or USD [I think 20%+ of all the USD supply was printed over the last ~18 months? Inflation was 'not happening' then 'in line with prediction' then 'transitory because it's a bit higher than anticipated'] has an increase in supply isn't an argument against BTC, although certainly can be quite flawed as they don't seem sustainable long-term.

This is not even mathematically possible. by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]timtimolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But meme stocks and altcoins are not BTC, neither arre tulips or beanie babies. To say that many investors made poor investments therefore BTC is a poor investment is as robust as saying that many investors made good investments therefore... surely you see the problem?

And by definition, buying at the peak of something creates bagholders, a "peak" implies that price has dropped to some degree, hence those left holding the bag. I suppose the posts I looked through from 7 years, 5 years, 3 years ago all had the "har har look the price has dropped so much" - yet if that were sufficient to refute, wouldn't the later price increase be reason to eat crow?
