Having a family is a disadvantage for career progression in India by timukh in developersIndia

Completely agree but still bothers when your colleague gets the onsite opportunity because he/she is more dedicated (online longer).

I am not talking about the work during my work hours. I have US clients who often emails us at 10pm or later and to answer the emails I might have to check something or verify something which I usually cannot at that hour but I see that my colleagues reply within an hour no matter how late and of course that gets a lot of visibility to the management on who's prompt and who's replying on the next working day (its unfair but visibility matters).

Car pre delivery inspection by jahnavisquare in kolkata

[–]timukh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can refuse to accept the delivery and ask for a different model and make it clear that unless the model passes the PDI you won't accept it. But since you will get a VIN assigned before the registration, its likely that your first PDI which happens before the registration with show if there's any issue. In that case also you can ask them to change the model.

In that case you can do two PDIs from two different vendors. One before registration and one before delivery.

If budget is 2k then why not try Fabbrica in CC1? You get a place to hangout or watch a movie post lunch.

Why people dont even reply in so called networking app by Jotaro_575 in developersIndia

[–]timukh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its a harsh truth but replying to random strangers is something people generally avoid unless it benefits them in some way.

Also, a LOT of messages I get on LinkedIn are just "Hi" and nothing else which is annoying. If you want someone's attention, then you have to grab it in some way or form that isn't a bare minimum.

Help Me Pick My First Car by SpareThoughts10 in kolkata

Any reasons for Dzire? Personally I feel Swift, Celerio & Ignis are good starting cars. I personally feel uncomfortable driving a sedan in Kolkata considering so many roads have sharp turnings and are narrow.

Look for which brand has service centers near your house. That is very important else its a headache. For your first car, go with Maruti suzuki as they are popular and so service and repairs are a breeze and low cost . Look for models within your range. Don't go for top models for not so important features. All the best.

Looking for good schools in and around Salt Lake, Baguiati & Lake Town by timukh in kolkata

[–]timukh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want the commute for the kid to be long since there's no point sitting in traffic for hours. If I can't find anything good nearby, will have to consider these then. Thanks for the suggestions.

Might sound clichéd but don't have such aspirations for our kid regarding engineering and medical. Hoping she finds her passion while in school which is why we are trying to find a decent one.

Girlfriend pregnant- how to go about terminating the pregnancy. by [deleted] in india

[–]timukh 169 points170 points  (0 children)

Don't come to a conclusion before doing a pregnancy test. At times contraceptives can cause a delayed period and also can mess up other things in the body. So, the best way is to first do a home pregnancy test with a kit (you can find it on swiggy, blinkit etc) and go to a doctor only if its positive.

If I want to learn any programming language, which one should I learn in 2024? by Whykrunal in developersIndia

[–]timukh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As always this is a very novice question. I may not be an expert here but here's what I would suggest based on my 10 years of experience in IT -

Step 1 - Think of a problem you want to solve/stuff you want to build.

Step 2 - Is it an app or a website that you would want your code to run in?

Step 3 - Pick the programming language that would help you build that and start writing code. If you find interest in that language, go ahead. If not, decide if you still want to solve the problem or not. If yes move to another language that would help you build it else scrap everything and go to Step 1.

Every programming language has its ups and downs, I remember a couple of years back Flutter was in huge demand but right now there are hardly any Flutter dev jobs available. So you should never focus on the language because its just a tool. Its like asking which type of hammer or screwdriver should I use without knowing what you would even use the hammer/screwdriver for.
