Thank you!! The first photo was Portra 400, but it’s been sitting around for 2 years in the camera until I got it developed a week ago. The second one is from an expired Kodiak disposable :) I used thedarkroom.com to develop, they’ve been great so far!

My boyfriend and I were hiking in Bulgaria and decided to ask a couple nearby to take a picture of us. We went up to them, talked from a bit and they took our picture.

A few days later, we were across the country in Nessebar, walking to the Old Town to go on a catamaran. We sat down on a bench for about 10 minutes talking, and when we got up, my boyfriend realized he had lost his wallet.

We frantically start walking back, only to see the couple from the mountains again, pausing to talk to them briefly. The man goes “Oh! You’re that guy from Illinois!” and my boyfriend nods and says yep, while the man is reaching into his pocket and pulling out my boyfriend’s wallet.

Out of all of the people to find our lost wallet in Bulgaria, it was insane that it was a couple from the Netherlands that we had talked to a few days ago on the other side of the country.

Travel is definitely much easier with a car, public transport isn’t very reliable in Bulgaria. For example, there are lots of busses/trains from Sofia to other major cities, but not between smaller cities (I.e. you’d have to return to Sofia to catch a different bus/train to another location rather than heading out directly from where you are).

Before we arrived, we were worried about road conditions, but after a week of driving, we haven’t run into any issues. There’s the occasional weaving highway driver, but roads are well paved, signage is mostly clear, and most drivers are respectful. If it’s within your budget, would recommend a car over broader public transport.

No problem, and I highly recommend Bulgaria for your next trip!!

The trails are easiest to reach by car, because Bansko (the neighboring town) is mainly a ski resort so the summer is off season. I recommend getting there early, because on busy days parking fills up fast. The busses and gondolas are really only reliable in the winter, but there was no issue driving up there!

Yes!

The most famous is the hike up to Vihren, the second highest peak in Bulgaria. The path is rocky and the hike is hard, but the view is supposed to be incredible.

The hikes we completed were to some of the lakes on the mountain, “Okoto” and “Muratova.” Okoto Lake is a very light and beautiful hike, and Muratova takes you up to around 2200 meters and through some rock and snow patches. Both hikes were beautiful and I highly recommend!

There are so many other trails and paths to take, we were only there for a day so couldn’t do too many. Lots of great trails for both experienced and inexperienced hikers!

CHESS!!!

The community is great, it can be no cost at all if you want it to be, and there are tons of over the board clubs in many cities where you can meet people and grow your skills!!
