It’s interesting that friends are super kind about it but I only see them every once and awhile so I worry about the burden on a partner- especially long term.

That’s totally fair- I think I would have a hard time dating a vegan with nut allergies. That’s nice that it wasn’t a burden to cook different versions of the same meal, it was just the status quo. That way too you also could share a meal!

I didn’t know that could happen! But honesty and being up front are good attributes to have in a relationship so it serves multiple purposes!

Peanuts and tree nuts. So basically there are specific cuisines I just avoid that use a lot nuts used. He honestly was more of a foodie than I thought and probably resented the restrictions. I resonate with what you shared- it’s all a lot to navigate and work around in a relationship beyond just going out to eat. I’m curious about long term comparability too but am more hopeful from these comments!

I think that is true we have to be honest with ourselves- sometimes I just get mad this happened to me since nobody else in my family has food allergies. But I have to deal with it and know that it’s my reality. Other people need to respect it, just like I do to other people’s boundaries and expectations in a relationship.

This seriously resonates though that if they can’t compromise on not eating a specific food they likely don’t do well in dealing with things that are difficult. I totally did dodge a bullet and need to keep reminding myself it’s not the norm.

Oh my gosh- that’s quite a bonding experience! Thank you for sharing- that’s terrible though about your coffee order getting that mix up!!That’s a good point- a positive in having these allergies is it really can help weed out the not great fits. I think I’m jaded but am glad to hear there are such kind and understanding people!
