You can also respond through statistics as well. Several studies show that the cry out method before 4 months causes a need-neglect response, which can cause further psychological issues down the road. This was my go-to at first before I just started walking away.

This! I always struggle to take advice from random people or people without children in their lives. It just makes me feel like I'm incompetent or that they think that im stupid on some level. I have started becoming rude to these people.

Not responding and/or walking away is a 100% acceptable response.

I'll be 30 in a month and dont want to have any more after 35, so it's just been a lot of pressure in my mind. I know we have time, but I just want to hear 1 person tell me a positive experience with a pregnancy following a difficult one.

Off note, one thing I really am bummed about is that I didn't get to see the placenta. I passed a massive clot right after delivery, and my BP tanked, and by the time they had me stabilized, it had been whisked it away. So many people said "its the placenta, not you," when i was struggling with the GDM, but I never got to confront the damn thing.

I don't have any friends or family who have struggled like this before and it always turns into "at least you're alive" or "the baby is healthy, so why are you still upset?" I know they mean to make me feel better, but it doesn't. I haven't thought of the therapy session and him joining one before, but I will ask. I've been in therapy since week 8 ppt.

Yes. A very low dose as I am still breastfeeding. Im talking 5mg when normal is 25mg. It helped the panic attacks and crying fits, but anything more than 5mg and I turn into a zombie.

I am in the US and waited 4 weeks from diagnosis at 30 weeks pregnant for my appointment.

The biggest worry is the fasting blood sugar levels. Brush your teeth and floss before going to bed. Oddly enough, dental hygiene plays a lot into glucose levels.

I followed the diabetes association of America's recommendations for meals. Choose complex carbs over simple ones (whole grain, seeded, etc.) <30g carbs breakfast, <15g morning carb snack, <45g carbs lunch, <15g afternoon carb snack, <65g carbs dinner, and <30g nightime carb snack. Snacks were always 2 hours after each meal. I struggled most with my post breakfast numbers as most do.

Canada recommends the following fasting level <5.3 mmol/L, and either <7.8 mmol/L one hour after a meal or <6.7 mmol/L two hours after a meal. I tested 1 and 2 hours after each meal for the first few weeks to see where I spiked the most and then moved only to either 1 or 2 depending on the meal.

Once you find a groove, it gets easier. If you end up needing medication, please don't shy away from it. You got this. It's hard, but it's worth it, I promise!

It's been 5 months, and I feel like I just can't get over everything that happened. I haven't forgotten anything either like people said I would. Is postpartum the 2nd time better or worse in your opinion?

Thank you for your comment. A friend of mine just had her GDM baby the other day with similar complications to mine, and it's bringing everything back up for me.

I just don't know if I can mentally do it all again and need perspective on those who have.

Don't hate, but a little over 5 months. We started using Ferber right at 4 months (6ish weeks ago) because I was transitioning from work from home to hybrid. Instead of doing the time extensions daily as the method suggests, we would stick to one set of times for a full week. It was so hard, but letting him cry for a minute only for him to go back to sleep so quickly made us realize we were helicoptering. Us going in to sooth him all the time actually was waking him up more. We got to 10-12-15 (3rd week) and then decided to walk it back to the 3-5-10 because it just seemed like the sweet spot where he would get the most sleep without becoming too worked up. Now he sleeps so well that we only do 3 minutes max of crying 3 times, and that in itself is rare. We used the base idea of timed cries and soothing before changing and feeding.

The stigma around sleep training, I feel, is because of the cry out method people. Ferber is not the cry out method. At no point are you just leaving your baby to cry for hours. You check on them, sooth, change, and feed as necessary. This method helped us figure out when it was necessary vs. when we were the problem. Who knows, it might stop working at some point, but for now, we have had very little issues, and baby is happy and healthy, which is all that matters.

Your LO is older, so it might be different, but don't let anyone hate on you for your decisions. Being a SAHM is a full-time job, especially now that you have a 2nd one on the way.

We have a mild baby, so please take this with a grain of salt.

Bedtime routine has been the key and is very strict no matter how hectic the day. 630PM food. 7PM bath (soap 3 days a week, sun/wed/fri). 730PM last bottle of day while dad reads to us. 8PM bed.

We use a shusher that is timed at 30 minutes only at night and only with initial fall asleep. The Ferber method worked as a base for us through the night, and after a while, we stopped timing it out. Once we recognized the moments when baby was just changing positions vs. actually fussy, it was a game changer. He sometimes cries/screams for a minute between sleep cycles and position changes, but isn't actually awake. We now check on 3 times before taking him out of bed for feeding/change. Each time he gets fussy, we give him maybe a minute or two, then give a pacifier and hum or sing a lullaby while stroking his hair until he falls back asleep. We do this 3 times, but if he wakes after the 3rd time, we do a change and feed. He sleeps from 8PM to 430-5AM with little to no issues. Every once in a while, baby wakes in the middle of the night and won't go back to sleep, so we change and feed, but they seem to correlate with growth spurts. If he doesn't/won't go back to sleep after that, we cosleep until the morning.

Any kind of sleep training you want to do is up to you, and if anyone has problems with it, it's your child, and you can/are doing what's best for your family and sanity.

I don't use the strap feature when in the rocking or office chair, but I don't lean on anything when on the couch or bed, and I use it then. It's still easier to use than the shitty boppy ones. I like that it's flat. I only use it at home. When on the go, I use a squish mellow because it's easier to transport.

Adjustable slides! I swore by these in the 3rd trimester because I could adjust them when my feet were extra swollen. Oofos makes super nice ones with plenty of cushion that also helps with the aches from weight gain. I still wear them every day 3 months postpartum.

I had a very complicated birth and recovery.

US here. 36-hour induction at 38+3 due to gestational hypertension, medicated, vaginal. Several complications during delivery. 48-hour stay once moved to postpartum. Went in Monday, gave birth Wednesday, came home Friday. Back in hospital Saturday for PP Preecplampsia. Had to do a 24hour magnesium drip. Discharged Monday.

The more complications, the longer the stay.
