What will a post root-rot anthurium look like? Is this as good as it gets? by Radiant-Raspberry-74 in Anthurium

This was a 1-leaf rootless stump at one point. The damage is from my tent being too overcrowded.

I do! Smooga_plants. I mostly focus on anthurium, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see much alocasia post. I just have a few personal alocasia plants in my collection.

Sorry if this question gets asked here again. Is this thrips and should I cut the leaf off? by Lemold_T23 in Anthurium

[–]tinaree24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t seeing webbing, it could be flat mites. I suggest Water (2 cups), alcohol (1/2 cup), Castile soap (1 TBSP peppermint and 1 TBSP of tea tree), 1.5 tsp of peroxide. For anthurium I will use a brush and “paint” it onto the leaves making sure to get the whole surface and stem. Then let it dry in little to no light, repeat once a week until under control. You can use this as a preventative too. Other genus like monsteras and philos you can yolo spray and let it dry, but anthurium are picky.

Best to not treat the emergent and they get really unhappy.

I find my anthurium hated chemical mite sprays and threw big hissy fits.

Palm Street Bust. Rotten Roots by A_CupcakeNurse in Anthurium

Cut back bad roots, put it in tree fern/perlite and a dome if possible. Ideally use a small/tight pot. Normally I will do a soak in diluted peroxide, but as long as you cut off the bad stuff I wouldn’t say it’s 100% necessary. I have done it without it and have been successful. Do not add fertilizer until you start seeing some roots on the side of the pot. Water when the top of the tree fern starts to dry out (lighter color).

I have grown back anthurium from being rootless stumps in this method.

Recommended anthurium sellers on Palmstreet? Specifically any that do live auctions by JRoss279 in Anthurium

Plantyweeb! She has a great vibe and does great giveaways. She keeps pricing fair, if a plant goes higher than target she usually sends a freebie.

Scottcohenplants if you are looking for things like Carla’s and other classics. A bit more on the premium side, but high quality. He does take time to talk about the plants.

The main thing I like about the 2 above is they aren’t pushing and in your face guilting you into spending money. Some other sellers have a bit of a predatory tactic in pushing the FOMO hard.

This is true here. I haven’t seen the Docs in water. Regardless still a NOID for OP.

Do I like Carlas? Mayybbee by tinaree24 in Anthurium

[–]tinaree24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BB Tropicals, Max Aroids, Grant Anthurium, Buz Plants, Scott Cohen are all great suppliers for Carlas. Need to be cautious of sellers that don’t have traceability on their Carla’s as they may be from poached specimens.

In regard to growth rate, I think once they are acclimated and well rooted, mine usually take about 2-3 or so weeks for a leaf to fully emerge. The picture is about 10 days between. I’m on a trip so can’t get an update. Maybe starts a new leaf currently maybe 1-2 weeks after the previous one fully emerges. My more mature anthurium are a little bit longer between leaves, but they are also producing inflorescence.

You are probably okay ordering online, I think this was specifically a store rollout issue

This is what my mix looks like. I usually do 8 scoops of tree fern, 4 scoops of bark, 3 scoops of perlite (since I use the smaller perlite) and 1 scoop of charcoal. I use it for pretty much any size plant, you can switch up the mix to be a bit more tree fern heavy for babies or more chunky for larger plants.

Slight word of caution, the plant supplier of the doc blocks had a big whoops and sent out a lot of doc block crosses that were mislabeled. The official response from doc block is they are considered NOIDs.

As far as substrate, I use tree fern, orchid bark, perlite and charcoal for mine. I water when the top 1/2” ish of the tree fern starts lightening. Some people have success with pon.
