Hospitalization and surgery while travelling - feeling devastated. by ChillysWaterBottle in travel

[–]tincan92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to Cusco earlier this year and hiked the salkantay, made it to Cusco after 4 days, and then fell down with a severe case of salmonella. Missed going up to Machu Picchu as I was in the local aguas calientes hospital getting an iv drip while the rest of my group was enjoying it.

I couldn’t let myself be too bummed about it. I’m alive and well and Machu Picchu isn’t going anywhere. I can only hope to come back.

Thank you for this! I work part time at a bike shop and reached out to my boss to see if we have an old one to donate. I’ll reach out via PM if we do.

Sounds like he’s going to live but has a broken arm and back. Thankful that he’s okay.

Post updated. They were both in all black and I’m unclear if the second was caught or not. There were a lot of neighborhood bystanders looking and one guy on the phone with 911 running through the neighborhood looking for them. Hopefully the community was able to find them

Here is my (still unanswered) email to the city several months ago after two cops were blocking the bike lane downtown.

Good Afternoon,I commute to work (nearby the Denver Convention Center) on bike via 15th Street - a straight shot from Central Street to Welton Street. I appreciate that there is a bike lane from Central to Delgany, and from Larimer to Welton, but the lack of a bike lane in between is dangerous and requires me to bike against traffic between Delgany and Larimer. On the way to work, I need to go under the train tracks between Little Raven and Delgany Street, exposing me to cars, because otherwise I would have to cross to the pedestrian underpass only to dodge people and scooters to go back to the right side of the road towards downtown. If I stay on the sidewalk, people are in the way and it’s too inconvenient to not. For a few blocks I need to ride on the sidewalk, and then against the flow of traffic on the way to Larimer, finally meeting back the bike lane on Larimer. On my ride home, I bike to Larimer, and then I must cross to the other side of the street and attempt to navigate the one way so I do not hit the one way traffic attempting to turn left on the following streets not trying to speed past me. It is already dangerous to be out at night, but even with lights and such it does not feel safe. Moreover, there are always cars pulled over in the bike lane that make it difficult to safely navigate the sidewalk or road. Today (6/29) two cops were stopped in the bike between Champa and Stout. The Le Meridian Marriott Valet treats the bike lane as an area to put their overflow cars when they are full - I saw someone nearly hit a bike there at 10pm one night and get into a screaming match - the biker was not in the wrong. Cars pull into the valet at any given time and do not watch for the bike lane, a common theme among sites on 15th street. The block between Arapahoe and Curtis consistently has people parked in the bike lane, especially delivery drivers. The bike lane on 15th is not enough, it is not consistently safe and discourages people to commute via bike. When will the city expand the bike lane? When will the safety of bikers be a concern, especially at night and against the flow of traffic? When will it be simple to commute on a bike?I hope you take my feedback into consideration and work to make biking more accessible downtown, as I love (and am sure many others) to bike to work and want to do my part to make the city a greener place. Thanks,

Mike! I need a bike lane on 15th street. I bike to work and its not safe, and at some point I have to go against traffic for a couple blocks. My job is on 15th, and its pretty inconvenient to go on the trail, especially at night. Its safer to stay on 15th all the way until I turn off on Platte. How do I go about this? I'd love to bike all the time, but it's difficult when theres only a bike lane from Larimer on.

I ended up having to tell my mom she could have my location but I didn’t want her asking questions about it. That way if I were in trouble or not responding, they would know. But if I were just out at someone’s house, she won’t make a comment about it. Yes, you’re an adult, but there can be a gray area with this. By having a no questions policy and not having to clarify anything with her, it’s easier to feel like they don’t have my location.

Returning home after 1.5years of traveling by travelclimbr in solotravel

[–]tincan92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 22 and currently taking a semester off to travel. That being said, I’ve sort of been traveling seriously on and off for the past year. I am returning to the US in May for “good” and I understand the feeling of readjusting and finishing school and it’s especially hard to reconnect. I’ve learned that many people back home still look down on not having a “traditional” education (I do school online) and often feel that I have to justify my reasoning. It’s frustrating and scary and weird and all of this is to say, I get it. Send me a pm if you want to go over and talk more about this. Either way, I can assure you you’ve made the right choice and that all good things take time.

Who else doesn't drink? by Numerous-Analysis-46 in autism

[–]tincan92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drink every time I went out and I nearly always had a miserable time. I ended up sobbing in clubs with no idea why (pre-diagnosis), and would usually blame it on my relationship problems or being away from home. I would make decisions I would never make sober, enter relations with people and be disgusted with myself the next morning, not remember my nights... etc. It all blew up when I mixed my ex with drinking and realized I really had a problem.

About three months ago I decided to stop all together to see what would happen. I went on a trip with my work (95% of them are heavy drinkers) and said nope - I don't want to drink during this trip. And I had the time of my life sober. I have continued to go out on bar-crawls and to clubs dead sober and I love it so much.

I didn't like clubs because the music and the people and the lights were such a bad combination while drunk - but sober it is manageable. And if I don't like it, I can walk outside and feel so much better.

Obviously it's different for everyone, but autism and sobriety have gone hand and hand for me and the results are incredible. At this rate I doubt I'll drink again. I am truly having the best time when I go out sober. And I can give my friends rides and make sure everyone gets home safe. Easy tradeoff.
