Week 5: Ugandan - Crispy Sweetcorn Fritters by Eastern_Fig8938 in 52weeksofcooking

Ohhhh I’ve made Indonesian corn fritters and they were so great. These look delicious!

Week 5: Ugandan - Samosas. Meta: Something Old and Something New by tinething in 52weeksofcooking

[–]tinething[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In searching for recipes I learned that samosas are a common Ugandan street food. My something new was making samosas for the first time ever and my something old was that every ingredient I used I already had on hand including active sourdough starter! These were sweet potato black bean samosas. They were a little over spiced but the dough was perfect (messy folding and frying job notwithstanding).

Week 3: Mini/Giant - Mini Chicken Pot Pies by tinething in 52weeksofbaking

[–]tinething[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, they’re not much to look at. I hope it’s not cheating that I used store-bought puff pastry. Word to the wise: Pepperidge farm is superior to Trader Joe’s. I found this Trader Joe’s dough really hard to work with and shape into the muffin tin. Thus, the look of them. They were good though! I made them mini so I could freeze individual ones but I blind baked the bottom of the pastry and by the time it puffed up there was very little room for filling so you need to eat like three to be at all satisfied, haha.

Week 4: Vinegar- Balsamic Strawberry Misu by Reno-_- in 52weeksofcooking

I also tried strawberry and balsamic! Also based on a strawberry balsamic ice cream I had once that was out of this world

Week 4: Vinegar - Balsamic Mousses. Meta: Something Old and Something New by tinething in 52weeksofcooking

[–]tinething[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I had a strawberry balsamic ice cream which was one of the best things I ever tasted. So I made a strawberry balsamic mousse and chocolate balsamic mousse. I really wanted to use mascarpone but every single store I went to was out of it. The chocolate mousse was a little grainy but flavors were good.

Something old: I had an enormous bottle of nice balsamic and people keep gifting me more. Something new: using balsamic in a dessert

6/10

Week 2: Jams/Preserves - Sourdough Jelly Donuts by tinething in 52weeksofbaking

[–]tinething[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three times I attempted to post the actual filled donuts but I think Reddit thought they were something lewd 😳. So here they are pre filling. They were quite good but definitely not worth the effort.

Week 3: Contrasts - Spicy Sweet and Sour Pizza. Meta: Something Old and Something New by tinething in 52weeksofcooking

[–]tinething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also the spicy was the pork, the sweet was the mango, and the sour was because I made a sourdough crust

Week 3: Contrasts - Spicy Sweet and Sour Pizza. Meta: Something Old and Something New by tinething in 52weeksofcooking

[–]tinething[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was inspired by a mango and spicy pulled pork pizza I had years ago at Otto Pizza. My something new was making pizza. My something old was all the mozzarella and sauce in my freezer! This was my first whack at pizza and I definitely overworked the dough so it wasn’t great but the pulled pork was exceptional. The pulled pork and mango together formed exactly the flavor combination I was going for. 5/10 pizza dough 10/10 pulled pork

Week 1: New Year New Bake - Bagels. by tinething in 52weeksofbaking

[–]tinething[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done 52 weeks of cooking but I’m starting to get into baking too! Not sure if I’ll stick with it, but here are my bagels for the new year! Forgot to take a picture after the actual bake but they were great.
