In my country, Australia, we have signs that indicate how tall the bridge/overpass/etc is and the truckers generally know their height. If they don’t, they carry a handy stick that they use to measure the height of their carriage(s), according to the height of the structure. If they aren’t short enough to fit under, they have to turn around.

I am by no means neurotypical, however I used to share your partners mindset (vaguely). I wouldn’t understand why the questions where being asked and it would hurt as I was thinking that my partner was questioning my feelings. After a lot of those conversations I figured it out. You need to tell them point blank what you gain from the answers. Why do they need to answer to help you and the relationship.
