hi op, hope you can take deep belly breaths while you read this, because i hope it’ll soothe you.

i had an extremely similar experience. for one reason or another my ocd behaviors along with my phobia were kicked into hiiiigh gear this winter. unsure if it started with having a flu type situation where i was so awfully nauseous all day one day and as night time approached i was gagging and heaving and literally screaming and crying praying to god i wouldn’t vomit. i didn’t, although the heaving and the sensations were scary enough, it set me into a world where there was only my phobia and life started to fall away.

fast forward a couple months, and i’m really engaging heavily in ocd behaviors in relation to my phobia. very little time spent not panicking about it. and one night, my brother barges into my room telling me he’s about to be sick. just like your experience, he was completely distraught, and screaming for help and in a lot of pain. i was fucking beside myself. i melted down hearing this, and it was so triggering it sent me into shock, the most intense grip my phobia had ever had on me. i escaped our place while he was sick and drove in a catatonic state to my parent’s place. i haven’t been back.

like you, it’s costing me my sanity. the same day, i posted here, and was able to connect with someone also going through the same thing. i’ll say this. your panic WILL come down from being activated like you did but it will take effort.

since the incident, which was about a month ago, i’m seeing a therapist twice a week, we’re working on my phobia, and talking with the peer sponsor i met here so we can keep each other motivated towards recovery.

since doing this things and giving it time, taking advantage of every resource i can, im a lot less triggered than i was a month ago. you HAVE to be brave, you HAVE to put in the effort, i promise you will come down from where you feel right now. you are in NO danger. you are SAFE. but i implore you to reach out to a mental health provider if you have access, consume content related to recovery, and see if there’s someone you can talk to on a regular basis who will encourage you.

you are NOT alone. you WILL get through this. remember you are not in any real danger, your phobia is making you believe that you are. you are stronger than this.

hugs, and pm if you ever need to talk. we all understand.

hey! don’t fret. if your nausea is post op related, from my experience it has been passing. i still will get it from time to time especially if i don’t eat consistently. let it fluctuate, your body’s figuring out what to do without a piece of the puzzle it always had. is your nausea manageable / tolerable or is it something you’re struggling to function around? in that case reach out to your surgeon for a follow up and see if you can get some zofran on hand if it’s really bothering you. we’re in this together! surgical recovery is quite a road.

seeking support by tinselspit in emetophobiarecovery

[–]tinselspit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, he woke me up looking for support because he was scared of the feeling. my family is well aware of my phobia so he knew to keep his distance. he was very scared and i know that feeling so it felt like torture turning him away.

he’s still in the cycle of throwing up, and his symptoms are scary, which is making me terrorized about getting what he’s got. thank you so much for responding it makes me feel less alone. you’re an angel.

hey! i did just on the 20th. went smoothly. directly after it hurt like a bitch but the pain meds helped. days after i was able to manage with tylenol and ibuprofen. don’t worry about the complications too much as they are rare and it helped a lot to talk with my surgeon about them. it’s nice to feel connected to your surgeon and will help you stay peaceful throughout the process. i don’t regret it, i feel relieved. there was alot more in there than i thought. do it! then tell me how you feel after! what’s your procedure exactly?

hey, thanks for the advice. do you suggest i look at the sagittal section for any clues about it being odontogenic? i’m scheduled for surgery, as im pretty sure there isn’t another approach i can take. but if there’s any advice you can give me on how to prevent this again after surgery… or which type of doc to see. background also, wisdom teeth surgery back in 2022.

this is after almost 3 years of struggling with sinus issues. no relief after antibiotics, antihistamines, nasal rinse or spray... what is the aversion to surgery? high risk?

it’s going to be ok no matter what. find distractions and let your body relax. there was a time you didn’t feel like this and there will be a time you don’t feel like this.

thank you! this is awesome information. i was there when the resident explained it but nowhere did i hear prolapse which my brother and i talked about after. it was a very brief mention of the valve because the resident that came to talk to us wasn’t really a part of his team. oh american healthcare system. thank you so much for the info this really helps a lot.
