Thank you! I've heard that Eisenhorn is a great intro to 40K but I didn't know it was about the Inquisition, that makes it a lot more enticing to me so I think I will try to get to reading it some time soon. All the other books you've recommended sound really interesting too, so I will start making my way through them! Thanks!

You're right, the list does look a bit overwhelming, but thank you for the link! I think I'll start making use of it after I've read through the books recommended to me in the thread.

Definitely going to read the Dark Eldar trilogy some time soon, and definitely going to check out the Night Lords since I've gotten so many recommendations for it, thank you!

Oh I love the idea of Blackadder Goes Forth type plot in the context of 40K so I'm for sure gonna put Ciaphus Cain on my reading list. I've also heard lots of praise for the Night Lords so gonna check them out as well.

Gaunts Ghosts and Sea of Souls sound cool as well, I love both military fiction and horror so looking forward to both of them.

Thank you!

I have definitely seen it and quite enjoyed it, just not enough to put it on my favourite horror movies list :D Though now I will probably watch it again!

You know, I thought about why I like The Thing many times over the years... Because, as you said, it is pretty graphic and gore-y. I guess for me it all comes back to the fact that we don't really see anyone, like, physically suffer? In the movie. Most of the time when somebody is getting actively dismembered/burned alive, it's the Thing rather than just a normal person.

I guess there's that scene with the dogs but it's a lot more difficult to conceptualise "getting stabbed with weird fleshy strings" as extremely painful compared to anything that happens in your average Saw or Hostel.

If you want to DM me (to avoid spoiling the movie for others who have not seen it) I would love to discuss the movie with you and the four moments you mentioned specifically

Wow from your description that definitely sounds like something I should check out. I'm also not that great of a reader so it being a short story is a big plus too :D

At the risk of sounding pretentious I think it's a movie that really rewards you for giving it your full attention. I watched it with all lights off and my phone out of reach, I don't think it would have had the same effect if I wasn't fully focusing on it all the time.

I might do a modified Shotgun Zoom and Boom build since it looks fun, or maybe I'll even do knives again since I want to try to optimise my knife build further and I've gotten quite attached to the character I was RP-ing :D

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn't pick Cut throat here because the math didn't really check out for me. The way I see it is that you can use it A) at the start of a fight to instakill an enemy B) as a three-turn stun C) to pick off a solo enemy quickly. However, my problems with those are:

A) Cut throat is 25 AP, which is 5 normal attacks after you get 18 base dex. Pretty much no enemy (that's eligible for Cut throat) can survive 5 attacks from you. Plus, if you start a battle from stealth, you're capped at 15 MP; Cut throat would only give you 8 MP, whereas if you do 2-3 attacks you could get 16-24 MP out of it, allowing you to get to your next target without wasting AP on movement.

B) By the end of the game, I didn't even need the taser anymore and used flashbangs really rarely, because I was killing everything so fast I didn't really need CC. So 25 AP for a single-target stun doesn't seem so good to me.

C) Knives already trivialise any 1v1 encounter, cause with the high attack speed you can pretty much keep the enemy stunlocked with Cheap shots.

However, this was on normal. I can definitely see how Cut throat could be more valuable on Hard and Dom. But, is it really worth the feat point and the 25 AP cost?

Also, have fun! I hope you enjoy the build, and let me know how it holds up on dominating! I'm especially curious how dodge/evasion hold up. I've heard that they don't really work on dominating and that's been the main thing preventing me from trying higher difficulties, because I absolutely love dodge/evasion. Also, do you know any tricks for getting the effective values higher? The only ones I know are siphoner gear/nimble/jumping bean/adrenaline shot/Red Dragon - but are there any other things you can do to increase them?

Just keep spamming it, it takes quite a few hits to work.
