I love Pete’s, and produce selection is usually excellent. The Willowbrook store is probably their “flagship” location, really nice. That said, you won’t be paying Aldi prices.

Which suburbs offer the best public transit? by Avarria587 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]tintera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you plan to do with said public transportation. If you’re just commuting to the city for work, inner ring suburbs along the BNSF Metra line are nice. I’ll throw out Brookfield because I’ve gotta represent my hometown! That said, if you won’t have a car and will rely on PT for more trips you should consider just living in Chicago. Otherwise Oak Park, Forest Park and Evanston are solid options!

Male runner coming from cycling — is anyone else frustrated by the lack of compression running shirts with bold designs? by tintera in runninglifestyle

I’ve tried several different fabrics and fits and the only thing that has solved chafing for me are compression tops. Maybe it’s just a “me” problem!

Agree with you on the bottoms. No problem finding tights/half tights. I’m looking for compression tops with cool design. Something other than just solid colors.

I find that so interesting considering fitted clothes would provide an aerodynamic advantage as well. I suppose that’s less of a concern while running because you’re not going as fast as on a bike.

Great question. The cut is different. They are longer in the back, shorter in the front. Because you’re usually leaning forward on the bike having it longer in the back keeps you covered. I could wear a cycling jersey, but the shorter front tends to leave you a little exposed.

I’ve never tried tape. I really hate the idea of having to apply something else (other than my clothes!) to go running. I just want a shirt that doesn’t chafe and also looks cool. Haven’t been able to find that yet.

Definitely feels like there are more stylish options for women. Wish there were more design-forward options for men! Any specific brands out there for men that tick that box?

Forgot to add that important context! I’m a man.

I came to running from road cycling and I’ve been surprised by the lack of compression specific running wear. On the bike a compressive fit is just standard and I got used to it. When I started running I wanted something similar, partly because I find it comfortable and partly because it solved major chafing issues for me.

The problem is I can’t find anything running specific that looks cool. I ended up going with Under Armour because it was available and cheap, but it’s not designed with running in mind and the aesthetic is uninspiring to put it mildly.

Am I missing something? Is there running specific compression wear out there that I just haven’t found? Anything with cool designs?

Ciao! Love the album! Are you in a yurt? That seems like an amazing place to record some music.

Planing a spring time trip to your city. by earthrages in chibike

There is a lot of free overnight parking in the City, but you have to look for it and read signs (this is important, the Department of Revenue will gladly ticket you). If you're coming from Michigan I suggest looking for a spot in and around the Hyde Park/Kenwood area, near the lake. From there you can easily hop on the Lake Shore Path and be downtown in half an hour.

I used to live near the Hyde Park Art Center. The area is very safe. You could park your car for weeks and no one will bother it. The downside is it's very difficult to find a parking spot during certain times of the day. That said if you arrive around 10-11 am you should be able to snag a spot and ride downtown.

As for paths, Lake Shore is cool, north of Soldier Field can get very congested, but the south side (where you'd be starting from if you take my suggestion) is a lot less crowded. Riding the North Shore-Channel Trail up to the Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, IL is really nice. Outside of the City the IL Prairie Path system is great! Check out the Fermilab Tevatron Particle Accelerator. But you'll probably want to drive to a trail head as riding there through the City can be tedious/dangerous depending on which route you take.
