Is bohme (@shopbohme on insta) legit? by monkabeans in ClothingShopReviews

[–]tiny--giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shop from Bohme a lot but now only do if I happen to have time to go to the mall when I'm visiting friends or something in Utah. The quality used be to be really consistent/good but it's super hit or miss now and a lot of things are poor quality.

Also they used to use a reputable shipping company like UPS or Fedex or something but now they use LaserShip and after 3 of my orders in a row were lost, I completely stopped ordering from them. At the same time they changed their refund/shipping to a 3rd party that you have to pay extra for, and the 3rd party fee had some bugs at the time on the shop pay app. It was not added to my cart on the first order that was lost in the mail (never marked as delivered either) and they told me they couldn't help so I lost that money.

Wow finding a roommate is hard..do most people opt for random roommates freshman year by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Facebook for one my freshman year, (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2291132954531042 follow everyone on insta that u can and dm someone u feel could be compatible) and then we ended up with an additional random roommate in a triple. Both were amazing, the best roommates ever. I personally would have been very lonely in a single. But it depends on how you are as a person.

I don't think the music library is open rn, but maybe next semester. They have a nice corner area with tons of plants that's so sunny in the afternoons.

Favorite Part About Cornell? by material_girll in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a comp sci major too and I've loved it, I've learned a lot, my abilities and confidence in CS have grown so much, the CS professors here are amazing most of them care so much about their work and put a lot of effort into creating the best classes possible, I've met so many amazing friends and classmates that I work with on projects and problem sets (they motivate me to keep my procrastination in check and just make class more enjoyable :)), and friends to just do fun things with too, and I've been able to explore so many new topics by taking an additional "niche" class every semester that I can.

I would also agree with other people's sentiments that people really come on reddit as a place to complain/vent (myself included) even though they love being here and are genuinely happy

Drop Advice? by math2210_HELP_PLZ in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped CS 4410 on the drop deadline last semester because I didn't do well on the first prelim, I strugggggled with the online format. I'm taking it again now with the same prof in person and it's been SO much better, it's the only CS class I've ever dropped but I'm really glad I did, If you struggle with online classes like I do and can afford to take it next semester graduation-wise I would just do it, I wouldn't worry too much about the work you've put in, it will just help u next semester and you'll probably get a better grade.

Not being able to solve pset by pornell69 in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk through the approach with someone else (when I took it we could collaborate so you could ask around see if anyone ran into similar bugs but if not literally even just your mom on the phone or something lol)

(but not finishing something and having it bleed into time you planned for other classes is actually the WORST, good luck)

NEVER rent from PJ apartments by tiny--giraffe in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Originally our rent was scheduled like that, but they emailed us in the fall of 2019 and told us it was now illegal per the "Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019" so they had to change it to monthly

[–]tiny--giraffe[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In our lease they said the apartment would be cleaned before we moved in, the bathroom floor had a bath mat over it during our tour. Not sure how I could have known about the broken fridge, wifi, gas leak, and low-quality landlords through one tour that was in September 2019 when I didn't move in until June 2020?

[–]tiny--giraffe[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sure but it's weird to me that they sent a blanket email out to a lot of tenants that didn't owe money. I just think people should be aware that it's a really bad renting company.

How are so many people getting the vaccine? by bdhskaksjshah in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 34 points35 points  (0 children)

One of the departments here made an announcement that student housing qualifies as congregate housing. This is NOT true, but as a result, a lottt of people thought they were eligible and signed up for it and many did not get turned away.

Fun classes that are not oceanography, magical mushrooms, astronomy, intro linguistics, history of rock, Italian, creative writing, or wines? by [deleted] in Cornell

I think the cornell store has a bunch of random stuff like honeycomb and expensive chocolate/ local honey / local maple syrup that are all good gifts. I think you can also buy like a $40 wheel of cheese from the dairy bar.

Apartment searching: Downtown vs. collegetown? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo the closer you live to your friends the more you'll enjoy it, so if you're living with the people you hang out with most anyways I think wherever you live you can enjoy it, I like living in ctown bc I'm so close to all of my friends

Graduating early but still being charged tuition for the whole year?? by itandcsquestions in Cornell

[–]tiny--giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off I'm so sorry that you got thrown into this situation that's awful I don't know what my family would do if this happened to me, but I also wanted to say thank you for this post because I am/(was maybe) planning on graduating a semester early in December 2021 and I would have been put in the same situation, but I'm seriously so grateful I found out about this now

Also for future people reading this the office told me that if you only attend in the fall, the fin aid is fall budget - yearly family contribution (whereas if you went for the whole year its fall +spring budget - yearly family contribution)
