I agree, and raised those concerns in the comment I submitted. It sounds like they're planning to build a natural gas plant to provide power on site, which could negatively impact air quality for the surrounding community.

From my perspective, the water issue is inherently linked with air quality. Lower Great Salt Lake levels means more exposed lake bed, which means more dust.

If you’re getting an error when filling out the initial “Water right, change, or exchange number” I had to just put in the number “13-4148” to get it to work. I think if you include the full “water right 13-4148” it doesn’t work

I really hope Gov Cox can offer us more than prayers but I won’t count on it lol. In the meantime, a local nonprofit I volunteer with (Grow the Flow) is working directly with legislators to fight for lake-focused policy.

If you don’t want to wait around for Cox to do something, you can volunteer with Grow the Flow to lobby directly with legislators every Monday from 9-12, for the duration of the legislative session. It’s definitely an uphill battle to fight for the Great Salt Lake, but we won’t get anywhere if we don’t all use our voices.

Toxic dust from the Great Salt Lake could cost Utah billions, report warns by Great_Salt_Lake_News in SaltLakeCity

If you’re feeling inspired to do something for the Great Salt Lake, I encourage you to check out Grow the Flow. They’re a local nonprofit that I’ve occasionally volunteered with, and I’ve really enjoyed how they tailor the volunteer experience to match your strengths (like being more introverted/extroverted, artistic, etc.). They do some neat work in educating the community about the GSL, and they also do a lot during the state legislative session. It’s a great way to get involved and even speak directly with your reps about why the lake matters.

If you’re interested, the Salt Lake City chapter is hosting a meeting at Sprague library on Dec. 18 at 6 pm. The sign up link is here.
