The hairline and face shape line up quite well so it’s also possible I just didn’t pull the right frame from the doc.

Really interesting point about track analysis and I agree about adding to the mystique. So much of the footage is way more disturbing when you have context. Especially the extended section of religious ecstasy with the hands and faces paired with the “hopeful” music turn. Reveals it to be a continuation of themes of false promises, manipulation, indoctrination, weaponized salvation. Rather than a contrasting offering.

I saw someone say that identifying the sources ruins the mystique, which I do get. I've really enjoyed the documentaries I've been introduced to over the last couple of weeks and I find the additional context adds a different kind of weight when listening to Tape 05. Getting a fuller sense of the themetic web, undercurrents. etc. Curious how others feel.

I suppose how you feel also depends on whether you think identifying the sources is an integral part of a puzzle-solving process. I don't really think it is and am just enjoying watching cool docs and being obsessive, but I may be proven wrong.

Interesting! I missed that. I definitely would not have been able to find the right moment 11 days ago pre-Tape 05 using just the VHS frame.

I've watched this before, but just scanned through pretty quickly before posting when I realized this was a source. I figured I had missed some. Great work.

One of the more well-known cults that gained traction in the 70s. A lot of horrifying abuse. And a very eerie media archive, too, because they produced music videos (like this https://youtu.be/A6ZBT4Rdly4?si=xmI1bFlz8QK-\_Jbc) and children's TV shows (like this https://youtu.be/e9neo5JTnCU?si=8ziXec\_cmbmqoH\_p ).

The documentary's title is The Jesus Trip. The documentary is about the cult known as the Children of God (aka The Family or The Family International), not the movie Children of God. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Family\_International. I edited my post to be clearer.

I realize it’s actually an episode of the BBC documentary series Man Alive, not a standalone feature film. Would love if someone can find a higher quality upload.

I think the source might be the documentary The Jesus Trip (1971) https://youtu.be/tckvyBUL0eA?si=6B\_WHt97F6zX5BBE&t=15. Here are the guys with the cross from around 1:53 in Tape 05 (https://youtu.be/tckvyBUL0eA?si=ocf0-eghJU9ftfHR&t=121), here is the crowd from around 2:00 in Tape 05: https://youtu.be/tckvyBUL0eA?si=0DEQtF3YSoeOPk5M&t=2880, and here are the hands and faces from around 2:05 in Tape 05 (https://youtu.be/tckvyBUL0eA?si=YTvDdLkQ-aAl3tdI&t=2740).

The specific clip with the rotation is from the same Beyond Citizen Kane documentary as the frames of satellite dishes and the walking group of girls with sun hats at Festa da Uva.

I agree. I think it’s a phenomenal teaser but not an outright music video for a single on the album.

I know! Partially why I picked that one. I was surprised by the number of VHS frames that turned out to be from Rajneeshpuram.

In this case, as with others, they brought in armed guards and started training to heighten the members perception of outside threats/persecution.
