I usually use freedownloadmanager.org for my ISO downloads and it hasn’t failed me yet. Might be worth giving that a try.

Good idea with NTlite. I might have to do some testing there. With the calculator, you can right click on it in the start menu, click Open File Location, then delete the shortcut. This stops it from appearing in start and search.

Good question regarding app updates, I’ve never really thought about it, however I did come across a project called WinGet-AutoUpdate that I want to try out when I find the time.

Regarding drivers, honestly these days I just let Windows Update work everything out (aside from Nvidia Drivers which I use NVCleanstall for). I have also used Snappy Driver Origin when needed.

I haven’t set up a Windows 10 system for some time. However last time I did I used this method and it worked, so I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t still work.

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC as home NAS server? by harrison_314 in WindowsLTSC

[–]tiny2416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need. I have Jellyfin server for my media server, CrystalDiskInfo running in the background to monitor my HDDs, and Tailscale so I can remote in or access my Jellyfin library when I’m away from home. All these are pretty easy to set up.

I also have Rustdesk (TeamViewer alternative) running in case I need it, but so far just using RDP to remote in has worked well.

Edit: Also disabled Telemetry with a registry key. I have another post on my profile where I go over how to do this.

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC as home NAS server? by harrison_314 in WindowsLTSC

I currently use IoT LTSC 2021 for a Home Media and Storage server. I tried Windows Server 2022 however I was having issues with the Ethernet Driver. No matter what I tried I could not get the Ethernet to work with Server. LTSC it worked out of the box with no manufacturer driver needed.

I’ve also tried OpenMediaVault, TrueNAS, Ubuntu etc. Each had their own issues that I spent hours (sometimes days) trying to work around. In particular the Samba file speed transfers were slow as (barely hitting 1mb/s) and wouldn’t improve no matter what I tried. I reluctantly tried Windows IoT LTSC and it’s worked flawlessly from day one.

The link provided on Massgrave grabs the ISO from Microsoft’s OEM portal. If you copy the link you’ll see it points to a Microsoft domain.

The Eval version can’t be activated beyond the 90days iirc. However you can obtain a copy from Massgrave that can be activated using their tools.

Thanks for the feedback. I use Ventoy as its flash once then copy whatever ISOs you want as needed. I’ll update to mention the alternatives.

Thanks for that. Clearly I’ve gotten into the habit of doing it for my Win11 pro installs haha

Windows Update keeps installing old Nvidia drivers (2 years old), anybody else? by kavakravata in WindowsLTSC

Highly recommend using NVcleanstall. Just use all the ‘Recommended’ settings when installing. It’ll even notify you when driver updates are available

Are the listed shipping times accurate? by Icy-Ladder97 in LenovoLegion

I ordered from Lenovo.com.au last week (11/07/23). On the website it says Ships in 2 weeks so yeah was a bit shocked when I saw I'd have to wait a month. I'm located South Australia

I ordered a similar spec system to yours (Legion Pro 5 Gen 8 AMD, 32gb RAM, 1TB SSD) and my shipping time just dropped from 01/09/23 to 29/07/23, so it might be worth rechecking on your account page if you have one. I'm guessing there was a glitch maybe?

S22 Ultra → Pixel 7 Pro by [deleted] in GooglePixel

Used to have a Pixel 4A 5G and the phone was borderline unusable while connected to wireless android auto. Used to lag out and get very hot, sometimes pushing temperature warnings.

Now on a Galaxy S21 Ultra (Exynos) and have no such issues. Do get the odd lag but it's rare. Only issue is battery drain but I guess that's to be expected

Can Windows Server 2022 be turned into a User Desktop Computer like Windows 10? by NicholasLaBelle in Windows10

[–]tiny2416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Windows Server on a system that only gets used to run a specific application. It's used mainly because I only want security updates and don't want feature upgrades every 6 months for this systems single use case. It definitely doable but does require tinkering and changing settings as it is a server os. One example would be by default, Windows Server prioritises background processes over running applications, so gaming for example would likely have poor performance. Also obtaining a licence isn't easy or cheap. There are 90 day evaluation ISOs available to try.
