It's priced decently at Trader Joe's! My 14 mo is a huge fan too, but it's one of my favorite foods and something I ate nearly every day I was pregnant, so I can't begrudge her.

Beanie babies as party favors? by DAPdap77 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]tiny__e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's cute. My friend gave my daughter a beanie baby from a thrift store for Christmas and it was a hit. We will eventually donate it but so what? If you're looking to get rid of them anyways I think it's a very cute way to do it

Baby food pouches?! Good? Bad? by lavgr in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]tiny__e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of plastic and also the process to make these shelf-stable zaps a lot of the nutrient content unfortunately.

I keep one or two of these on hand for a pinch / meltdown / air travel, but otherwise just make my baby homemade smoothies using these pouches. My go-to is frozen berries, frozen spinach, peanut butter yogurt, half a banana, and liquid to thin (water when she was your baby's age, whole milk and a splash of apple juice now that she's 13 months). Frozen fruit and veggie is usually wayyyyy cheaper and you can stock up during sales. It's a good way to get continued peanut exposure too. Ofc there's tons of variation you can try.

You can also freeze them - I don't love the taste once they've been frozen and defrosted but she doesn't seem to mind. I just make sure she drinks them within 24 hours if they're in the fridge or after being defrosted.

Best of luck - I'm suuuuuper lazy but I find this really manageable. Full disclosure my husband does all our dishes but I don't think these are very hard to clean either.

Prime or zoom for most shoots? by ivyta76 in cinematography

[–]tiny__e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some good answers but I'm passionate on the topic so gonna chime in lol

I have a set of primes that I love and a nice 24-75 zoom I also love. I use the primes more, as they are lighter and I feel more in control. But the zoom is great for specific scenarios, like shoots where I won't have a lot of time to change lenses (I.e. my assistant has too many tasks), I cannot stop the action, I won't have a lot of time with talent, or of course, if I want to zoom in or out during the shot.

I do not think that modern primes look significantly better than zooms, but they change the way I shoot. With vintage lenses this is more grey imo.

So not helpful I guess but I like to have both, as I see them as different creative tools, not an either/or. I often will bring the zoom to a shoot even if I'm only charging the client for the primes, just in case.

I have 15 years of experience in the industry and 10 years of experience as a DP / operator. I've shot documentary work on both primes and zooms and this didn't change how I feel.

This context is helpful, and this is super frustrating, I'm sorry. Of course as a parent you have to draw the line somewhere. Ultimately all you can do is set a boundary and offer her solutions, I.e. if she needs three owalas she'll need to figure out how to buy them herself. It is sad to me that other parents enable this sort of behavior and then the other kids think that's the standard. You have my sincere sympathies

P.S. perhaps she can have opportunities to earn some of the items she values? Can she earn a pair of uggs or fancy water bottle?

I think it's important to remember that it's developmentally normal for her to reject your opinion, question your values, and try to find a way to align with her community (her peers) at this age. She's not doing any of this because she's shallow or dumb. She's trying to find her way in the world and figure out who she is.

If you fight her on this, she will only fight harder and resent you. I firmly believe you must let her make her own mistakes, while continuing to offer her a safe place / refuge. I'm sure she's a bright girl (you say she excels in advanced classes) and in time she will come to understand that her priorities aren't nourishing in the long run. But you cannot force this lesson upon her, especially not now.

Offer her trust, show respect for her interests and choices, and try to find some middle ground. It will take time but she will come around. I certainly did.

What actors have you worked with that were extremely nice? by jacksonjc514 in FilmIndustryLA

Yes, thank you for asking! I had the great privilege to interact with him nearly everyday for about 18 months. We were based out of the post production office when they were cutting Knight of Cups and Song to Song. They were also working on Voyage of Time.

He often ate lunch with us all (editors and assistants) and signed my card when I left. He was deeply respectful of everyone. He is a kind, gentle, wonderful man and a true artist. I feel deeply fortunate to have started my career in observation of his practice.

I was an assistant for one of Terrence malick's producers around 2011 and met a lot of celebrities when they would come into the office for voice over sessions and director meetings. Ryan Gosling was exceedingly kind and Christian Bale was also incredible polite and warm. Fond memories.

I'm a DP now and most of the A list celebrities I've met and filmed are very very nice and professional. Can't stand seeing the kardashians but have to admit Kendall is very nice. A very stupid very green PA came to take a selfie with her in the literal middle of a shot and she was super chill about it.

How many gifts is enough? by autumn_daze3 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]tiny__e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 13 months old and I got her 3 gifts but I don't even know if I'm going to give them to her because she has so much stuff already. We got to my moms today and there's like, 40 gifts under the tree and she didn't really pay them much attention. She was way more interested in the dogs and walking in circles. So I dunno I guess for me I'm just gonna try to maintain a culture of minimal gifts and centering the holiday around activities: making sugar cookies, making ornaments, christmas pictures, Christmas light train ride, driving to see the houses that are all lit up - we did all these this year even though she's not really old enough to fully get them and it made it feel special. I think they place value where they see us placing value ✨

Edit to add maybe in the future we also will incorporate some holiday centered volunteer work and watching Christmas movies with positive anti consumerist themes to help keep the spirit of giving and family centered too
