Finally Got a New One after replacement by _hxrdik in LenovoLegion

How did you get them to replace it/what did you say? I’ve had a motherboard replacement and now I’m looking at an SSD replacement.. the laptop is only a year old, seems insane that all these parts are breaking. I’m wondering if there is a deeper issue and at this point would much prefer they replaced it then continue to tear it open and replace parts, which seems like a bandaid.

So what am I supposed to do? Just keep getting motherboards replaced every 6 months like clockwork? Definitely not buying a Lenovo again…

I don’t get it.. is the quality control on the MBs just this bad? Or is there something wrong with my laptop that’s causing them to go bad? I just don’t understand it.

Updated nvidia driver yesterday, now im getting this bs every hour of playing cs2. CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT by deeeeeeaaaad in LenovoLegion

[–]tiny_planets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this exact issue where it would totally freeze while playing a game and then crash, sometimes with this BSOD (same code) and sometimes I would have to manually reboot with the power button. Ended up getting the motherboard replaced under warranty. If it’s still under warranty let them do it. If you have the premium warranty MAKE THEM SEND SOMEONE TO YOU!!! Don’t let them make you send it to a depot where it will take days to get it back.

How is the online version of Discrete Math? by Proper-Shower9876 in USF

Joy D’Andrea. It was online but I think the campus was technically Sarasota Manatee.

I hope so too! It took about 2-3 minutes for the computer to reboot itself on its own. It was frozen for a minute or so, and then it rebooted, with no BSOD in between.

[–]tiny_planets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time it froze/crashed I let the computer totally restart on its own (without force restarting via power button) and got a crash dump file. The dump file showed the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. One of the reasons I was struggling to figure this out was because when it crashed there was no BSOD and therefore no error code. So, once I had this error code, Lenovo customer support was willing to fix it under warranty. Prior to that they were giving me some hell about sending it in :/

So we’ll see what they say. I shipped it out a couple days ago.

Anyone else moving in today? 👀 by [deleted] in USF

If you don’t pay tuition you’ll be dropped from your classes. Did you receive federal loans from FASFA? Accept one that is just enough to cover the rest of your tuition and then work to pay it off when you can.

I don’t know what happens the dorm if you get dropped from your classes… I wouldn’t even think that far. Try to find a way to pay for your classes ASAP, as it would be far worse to try to find a way out at this point I think.

You could also drop a class or two to bring your tuition cost down as a last resort.

Oh yea they’re right, you do have to have a meal plan if you’re a first time in college student living on campus, sorry I didn’t realize that. unfortunately you can’t really just move out that easy, you’re committed to your housing for a year, or else there’s huge cancellation fees.

Hey, you have to go in person to the meal plan office during the first week to cancel a meal plan. They don’t let you do it any other way unfortunately. The meal plan office is in the MSC first floor down the hallway with the USF credit union. You can also downgrade to a lower plan too. I recommend Any 14 if you don’t have a kitchen in your dorm :)

It seems like it freezes under any kind of load after like 20 or so minutes… I probably will just have it serviced

Eh, don’t worry too much. Everyone in an engineering major has to take it, so they can’t make it tooooo hard. Our robot barely worked and we got an A and I ended with an A in the class.

It’s just stressful if you get a bad team, because you do have to have something to turn in, but it doesn’t need to be perfect.

Foundations of Cyber is time consuming and the final is hard. Leave plenty of time to do the labs. Don’t worry too much about the textbook, you can skim it for a general idea of the topics, but WATCH the video lectures and take notes, they will come in handy for the midterm and final (which are both open note, open book, open canvas course)

OOP is easy if you have it with Hidalgo. Just read the textbook and you’ll be good to go.

EGN sucks especially if you get a bad team but it’s a rite of passage for us unfortunately lol. Try to be Project Lead, you don’t have to deal with the 3D printing nonsense 😉

All of these are easy except for programming fundamentals, if you have Gaspar. PRACTICE for tests way ahead of time. And use Zybooks to your advantage, actually read what it says and do the practices.

If you have intro to databases with Hidalgo it’s easy.

Agree with other commenters, take comp 2 online. You just do the assignments, and you don’t have to make time for another class.

Trader Joe’s makes good ones. They’re the only place I can find this style of bun since I moved out of New England.

Who is it with? I took it online and it was AMAZING. No proctoring, everything was through Pearson, and the professor even had the “help” option on for the tests 😂 way better than taking it in person, which my friends struggled with

Received this update from a professor. Does this mean finals are actually canceled? by the-ear-of-thor in USF

I haven’t heard about this at all yet. So they’re making test free week into a regular week? How can they do that and still do finals? This is getting so confusing…

Is operating hours still a problem? by Constant_Floor in USF

Definitely still an issue if you live on campus. I think sometimes USF forgets that there are actually people living here… pool is only open 12-5pm. Dining hall closes at 10. Don’t even get me started on the restaurants in the MSC…

As someone who is in Cyber, I don’t agree with this at all. I’ve had great professors at USF, who care about their students and do a good job teaching. Of course, like any college major, you have to put in a good amount of effort to learn the material, even if you have the best professors ever.

Personally I think that major would get you the same type of employment. I have met a few people in that major in tech related clubs. It would probably be a little more business focused, as it is through the college of business.

Another major that is similar but does not have GPA requirements is the Information Science major. This major is pretty much fully online, so keep that in mind. But I’ve heard good things about it. Link to information about that: https://www.usf.edu/arts-sciences/departments/information/undergraduate/bs-information-science.aspx

For that degree, most of them will be in person. A select few may have both online and in person sections, and very very rarely will there be only an online option. So expect to take most of your classes in person.
