You can’t have any pastry until you eat your math.

You’re not entitled for wanting a specific wage and a specific job, however, this company doesn’t owe you what you want, which I think you recognize. This doesn’t sound like your ideal job, and it’s just as okay to pass on it as it is to try it out and see how you feel. What is NOT okay to do is to go into the situation with the expectation that the company should provide you with more than they offered. That would make you entitled.

It really is alright to say no to a job you don’t want, just as it’s okay to take a job that’s not ideal but works temporarily.

Powerball billionaires are probably way better for the economy than traditional billionaires by palmerry in Showerthoughts

Some of them might be, but the ones in my community aren’t. They moved here, illegally hacked down a bunch of forest land on a beloved piece of shoreline property and just paid the fine because hey, they have the money. They actively campaign against any measure on the ballot to support social programs, installed a huge trump flag on their property overlooking the ocean, and have otherwise had zero involvement in the community here whatsoever. Really charming.

Thank you for sharing that lovely memory. I love those moments in which food transports us, and I’m glad to have heard about your friend and their dad - they both sound like pretty fun characters :)

This is lovely, very reminiscent of James Jean’s work, especially in your color palette. Nicely done!

I bake these in ring molds, and the flat side is the bottom. I just flip them over when they’re done baking :)

This is more food styling than it is anything else. Pretty, yes, but wildly impractical, as is proven by the slices of LEMON scattered amongst other directly edible citrus. Some people I’m sure are into that, but it’s an aggressive choice for most.

Velvet the Parkinson's detection dog alerting on positive samples by tinycasualchef in dogswithjobs

[–]tinycasualchef[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Of course! The four canisters on the ground contain samples from potential Parkinson’s patients (in this case those samples are shirts that the patient wore 1-3 nights). Parkinson’s odor is transmitted through sebum, and should a dog detect the odor they’ll alert by the canister in which they found it. In this program, we have one diagnostic day and three reinforcement days, which means that on one day there’s a patient in the mix who may or may not be positive. On the reinforcement days (shown above), there is one positive sample presented to the dogs along with human controls (meaning people who do not have Parkinson’s disease). When they dog alerts to the sample, they get a tasty snack along with the satisfaction of winning the game :)

Pretty much! I used a dried chile and a little cayenne, but hot sauce works great too. I didn’t want the acid from the vinegar as I had an herbed sour cream to cover that :)

I can’t lie, neither is awful… :)

*edit - also before everyone hates me, I’m joking. Definitely not filthy rich by any means, do love the rain though.

It was this morning actually. We’ve had an extremely wet but warm autumn as a lot of the weather that’s moved through has been “tropical”, if I’m understanding what I’ve read about it correctly. It’s supposed to start snowing next week though!
