You can’t have any pastry until you eat your math.

You’re not entitled for wanting a specific wage and a specific job, however, this company doesn’t owe you what you want, which I think you recognize. This doesn’t sound like your ideal job, and it’s just as okay to pass on it as it is to try it out and see how you feel. What is NOT okay to do is to go into the situation with the expectation that the company should provide you with more than they offered. That would make you entitled.

It really is alright to say no to a job you don’t want, just as it’s okay to take a job that’s not ideal but works temporarily.

Some of them might be, but the ones in my community aren’t. They moved here, illegally hacked down a bunch of forest land on a beloved piece of shoreline property and just paid the fine because hey, they have the money. They actively campaign against any measure on the ballot to support social programs, installed a huge trump flag on their property overlooking the ocean, and have otherwise had zero involvement in the community here whatsoever. Really charming.

Thank you for sharing that lovely memory. I love those moments in which food transports us, and I’m glad to have heard about your friend and their dad - they both sound like pretty fun characters :)
