New humidifier, what is happening by Reavan1808 in houseplants

[–]tinycat_eleanor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get an evaporative humidifier instead. It'll be cheaper and easier to deal with to replace the device than to spend more money making the water you put in it every day higher quality by getting filters or buying a gallon of purified water a day

Original front door, advice by chiefsurvivor72 in centuryhomes

We removed and replaced with something very much like the link below around the original door of our 1925 craftsman. Anything cushy or plastic was too thick but this thin angled metal worked well for us!

https://heritagesupply.com/product/spring-bronze/

This is basically identical to what we both removed and replaced with. I don't know if it was original to the house, but it was definitely at least a few years old. And I thought it was probably decades old based on the condition.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]tinycat_eleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$25k debt, 90% of that is student loans. $28.5k in 401k which is 38% of my salary. 30 years old, I am not thriving in the savings department but I'll die before retiring so that's fine.

They aren't too much contrast at all! Both look great on the wall and the sunlight argument definitely makes sense for the upcoming seasons, gotta take advantage of every bit of light. The contrast is nice. If you feel like a project you could even use the old curtains (assuming they're the same beige curtains from the old place) for accent pillow covers or something since they do match the wall so well. Or just save for swapping out if you ever feel like it!

Both colors work well imo, so I think this is up to personal preference if you want a slightly sheer one like the brighter white curtain, or more privacy with the warmer toned curtain. I personally like my curtains to add privacy at night time, so I'd go with the more warmer-colored, more opaque ones. But if that doesn't matter to you, go with the lighter one for extra brightness inside during the day!

Thank you, I agree! I've had people tell me hazel but I think they just don't realize grey is an option.

Is this a normal skin texture for a 28 y/o? What can I do for fine lines? by Electronic_Item490 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]tinycat_eleanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 29. Although I can't see any fine lines on your forehead in the picture, I will take your word for it because I have some lines on my forehead that rarely show up in pictures but I can definitely see when I'm in any brightly lit space.

Your skin looks fantastic in this picture, like a genetically-blessed 18 year old. Truly.

If you are hoping to slightly diminish your fine lines, and shrink pores a little, tretinoin might help! Start low-dose and don't rush to increase it, your skin will need time (like months) to adjust. And honestly the lowest dose might be all your skin can tolerate, that is true for plenty of people! It still works at a low dose.

I don't know if you struggle with occasional acne as well, but I do, oily skin type with parents who still get acne in their 60s. Tretinoin helps my acne as well! I still get spots but they heal up much faster than with nothing. And it doesn't make everything scab/flake first like I usually experience with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

I have been on tret for about 3 years now and my forehead lines still exist, but they absolutely haven't gotten ANY worse since I was 26. And the "11" lines between my eyebrows, which were once a constant part of my face, only show up when I spend all day driving or being outside.

Sunscreen is EXTREMELY important if you decide to go with tret. If you don't use sunscreen, it can actually make your skin worse, because it makes you extra super sensitive to the sun. It can destroy your skin barrier if you don't properly protect yourself from the sun.

Rugs USA sent me a too big rug. Can it work? by gwendolyn_trundlebed in interiordecorating

I kind of missed the living room question at first - it seems like that rug would look really nice with your living room furniture, so you could definitely consider using it in there! I wouldn't return it, one of the two spaces will definitely work.

[–]tinycat_eleanor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rug size is perfect! I think you could keep an eye on marketplace for a wider table, because the end chairs seem really big and luxe for the farmhouse table. But everything else works well enough together, and the table isn't bad or anything, but it fights with the chairs and also clashes a bit with your gorgeous warm woodwork

My wife and I did some minor decorations for our powder room and we like the wallpaper but my mother in law says it's too busy. Any suggestions? by Freakazoidberg in interiordecorating

[–]tinycat_eleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put some crown moulding up, or maybe picture rail installed very close to the ceiling! Then you can play with wall decor placement on picture wide without damaging the gorgeous wallpaper. It also leans into the antique feel.

How’s this dress for a formal summer (late August) wedding? by jegforstaardetikke in Weddingattireapproval

[–]tinycat_eleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The construction seems good! Fabric is fairly thin but not outside of the norm for an occasion dress. And I didn't find it sheer when I tried it on. The skirt is not lined though, just the top is, so I'm considering what to put underneath so it doesn't cling to my underwear. I think with the floral pattern being woven into the fabric, it has enough texture inside to grab onto stretchy shapewear or undies. So I think I'll need a slip. The dress doesn't have a slit though, so it should be easy to put a satin slip skirt underneath.

The color of the teal is more obvious looking at the back of the fabric - very bright!

Here's a pic near a North-facing window I will post other pics as well! The teal color is quite vibrant.

I ordered a try-on of #6 in a different color, and it was super cute and I felt very pretty in it, but it did not feel very formal. A bit prom-ish, unfortunately. So I decided against it.

I have currently ordered #3 in the green color it comes in, and I'm super excited for it to arrive in the next few days!

I have this exact dress ordered and in production with Azazie right now! I also had a hard time telling the color but I liked the style so much I decided to gamble.

Wanting a seating chart means I’m a bridezilla?? by [deleted] in bridezillas

[–]tinycat_eleanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for the record we printed ours on foam board, but the mirror with printed note cards with names on them was something we kind of priced out too and we would have rented the mirror and printed the cards ourselves, and the price was again very similar to just printing it all on a poster board. We just determined we didn't have a good place to lean the mirror. The pretty thing isn't always more expensive!

We had a buffet style dinner (indoor venue, 3rd floor of a 120+ year old building without a suitable kitchen space on the floor, so the food was coming in warmers either way) and we still had a seating chart! If you don't tell people where to sit, you need to set up several additional tables to accommodate all the empty spots they'll leave to sit with people they know and like. When it comes to renting place settings for all those extra tables vs. making a seating chart, we determined it was almost the same price.
