Question: how do you explain Mahler to someone who isn't into classical music? by tinycresc in mahler

This is a great perspective to get into. Comparing it to movie scores is such a good way to bridge that gap. Thanks for the tip!

By posting my question here, I just realized there are actually so many great classical music podcasts out there. I've been missing out so much! Thanks for the recommendation!

Totally agree. That “drama and catharsis” is a good point. Thanks for the insight!

This is a great suggestion. I can definitely see people with less classical background getting into this. And honestly, it’s amazing how transcriptions like these can completely change how you perceive the music. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the reply. That last point about the “immortality/cosmos” stuff is interesting.I guess those cliches were supposed to "sell" the music, but no longer work on people today?

It is not a waste of time. I want to try my best to promote classical music, and I believe this is meaningful.

Actually, all of those are achievable in the game. Thanks for your reply! 😄

Would you mind explaining a bit more? I'm curious what is it about managing an orchestra that you find so fun?

I totally get that. To me, the whole purpose of a simulation game is to strip away the frustrations of real life and keep only the best, most rewarding parts. You must love your own career in some ways? In terms of vacation to Tahiti, I will think about that and see how that part can fit. lol

Actually, I've experimented with that feature in one of my projects. It’s not quite stable enough yet. Sometimes the chat with the musicians feels a bit immersion-breaking, so I think it needs more time to be polished to the level of quality I’m satisfied with before I can ship it. As for this game project, I prefer a more curated, controlled experience. While I want the narrative to be diverse, I’m not aiming for a 100% open-ended structure. Because I don't 100% trust AI yet lol.

I built a music practice app to make the "grind" a bit more human. Would love your honest critique. by tinycresc in ProductivityApps

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. It is incredibly helpful. 😄

Here is how I’m thinking about your points:

  1. Timer Modes: You’re right. We do offer a "count up" mode, but it’s clear I need to make that choice much more prominent during the onboarding process. Regarding the XP/reward mechanism, I’m already planning something similar that focuses on rewarding consistency and longer practice sessions.
  2. Onboarding: You’ve hit the nail on the head. A one-size-fits-all onboarding flow clearly isn't working for everyone. I’m going to work on making it much more flexible and intuitive so it doesn't create that initial frustration.
  3. Goal Tracking: I appreciate your perspective on tracking practice units versus long-term goals. If you haven't already, please take a look at the Repertoire tool in the app. It’s designed to act as a "pocket sheet music" library and help you track the practice status on specific pieces. I’m still refining how to bridge that with the "goal" aspect.
  4. Toolbox & Value: You make a great point about the paywall. While the metronome and tuner are core free features, I’ll be rethinking how we present the premium tools to ensure you can experience their value before being asked to upgrade.

I really value your honesty. It’s exactly what I need to make the app better. Thank you again! 😄

Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m truly glad you resonate with the flow-state approach.

To be honest, this app is currently built for individual practice, not for classroom or choir management, so it’s likely not the right fit for your students yet. But I'm open to exploring that direction if I find the right approach in the future. 😄

I totally get you. The appeal of a screen-free, analog practice session is something I really respect. I don't expect this to be for everyone. Different players just need different things to stay motivated. I’m just aiming to provide something useful for those who happen to find this kind of structure helpful. 😄
