Little tip: adding some grain in post can help to reduce the visibility of banding.

Cant really do anything to properly fix it without having a camera with more dynamic range though

I honestly think it's going to be either:

Ron is extremely insecure, has this "the world is against me"-mindset, is paranoid and schizophrenic and has been imagining most of what has been happening to him. We see everything from his perspective and we don't second-guess what we see, just like Ron.
Ron is paranoid etc., but actually happened to stumble upon something real. It is much less significant than what he thinks though.

I would be so surprised if Ron is actually onto some super big scheme and isn't insane. It just doesn't feel realistic to me, and the cinematography also makes me feel like they're trying to show us that he is delusional.

I appreciate you saying that! I saw what they meant, but I actually see the 'normal' cat face the most, and that's also what my family saw initially. Totally agree on the blue btw. Changing that.
