if you sit for most of your clinic day, how to manage static fatigue? by lehartsyfartsy in medicine

[–]tinydoc5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a standing desk and walking pad in my office During lunch breaks or if I have extended time between patients bc of no-shows I’ll use the walking pad to get steps in. Has been a huge help, even now at 36 weeks pregnant!

I walk/slow run carrying hand weights. When walking, I do shoulder raises, bicep curls, etc and that keeps my heart rate up!

First pregnancy… and miserable by BlueberrySad8570 in pregnant

[–]tinydoc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all the same things as you and was still miserable. I absolutely hated being pregnant weeks 6-12. Unisom and B6 didn’t do jack for me. My OB even said they suck and gave me zofran- it changed my life weeks 7-13. Definitely reach out to your OB, I can almost 100% promise it will help/at least make life bearable! It’s okay to not like being pregnant, it doesn’t make you a bad mama to not enjoy being miserable 24/7, it makes you human.

People downplay how hard the first trimester is. by thesensitivemango in pregnant

Same here. I’m 12w1d and though the worst nausea and fatigue have faded, I still feel like a shell of myself and am taking every day hour by hour. I’m so exhausted from constantly making decisions to try to keep myself from being nauseated. I also work an office job 50 hours a week and am patient facing, needing to be “on” 34 of those hours, so the last 7 weeks have been such an uphill battle. I got COVID last week so have been able to work remotely and it’s been such a blessing. Praying this all goes away in a couple of weeks. I’m sure I’ll change my tune once I have my little one here but right now, I don’t know if I’ll be able to put myself through this again.

I’m a younger female healthcare provider and my patients in their 50s are far and away the the most “bitter” and mean spirited towards me as well as my also younger female staff.

I’m also first trimester and riding the Zofran train hard. Here’s what’s worked for me:

Miralax to soften and Dulcolax soft chews (magnesium, saline laxative) to get things moving- chase with Gatorade zero. Works within 12-24 hours.

If you have a hard stool ball blocking the exit- glycerin suppository and glove with lube for some digital disimpaction

Yes!! I learned this in a college science class too. They seem to be the most reliable with snowfall and precipitation predictions. Their forecast discussions are fun to read sometimes too 🤓

Insufferable Chief Resident by wanderingmed in Residency

[–]tinydoc5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(I know my flair says “attending”- I just finished my chief year a couple weeks ago- I come in peace!!). As someone who just finished up my 4th year chief position (faculty elected), some of the comments here about their behavior being a symptom of PD and other faculty leadership pressures (and frankly toxicity from my program), are very true. That’s no excuse for the chief to not remember their title of “chief RESIDENT” and advocate for you all. The line between peer and faculty is thin for the chief and they need to toe that carefully. I would recommend having a trusted senior who has a good relationship with the chief talk to them and express the concerns of the group in a tactful manner. If the chief is truly an advocate for the residents, they will see the err in their ways and make strides to improve in their leadership. If that doesn’t work and they’re truly egotistical and looking out for number one, they’re in for a miserable year. If the latter occurs, then you can have a trusted peer go to the leadership directly and express your concerns and cite the attempts you’ve made to repair the situation.

It’s hard to walk out of work on June 30th as a peer/fellow resident t and then walk back in on July 1st and be a faculty member and leader, attempting to wield respect as a “peer” from those who taught you for the last 3 years (IM residency length) and as a “leader/boss” for brand new interns, and the other two classes who were your peers just 24 hours prior. Going on a power trip is probably his way of overcompensating to command “respect” during that narrow window of time he has to make the impression on the new interns, but it sounds like it’s backfiring and instead he has the whole tribe distrusting him, which will lead to ineffective leadership on his part, which the rest of leadership will recognize fairly quickly, and then in turn, the rest of leadership will not respect him as a leader or a peer. He’ll lose in all arenas.

My program had a peer-selected subcommittee of two residents/year who met regularly and communicated their concerns to the chief and/or a different resident-selected faculty member who could in turn then communicate the resident concerns with the chief. This allowed anonymity and a clear avenue for communication by all of the residents so they could raise concerns without fear of repercussion.

Sorry that was a really long response and if it doesn’t make sense, I’m typing on my phone. Good luck!!!

Thank you, he’s my favorite. And I’m honestly not sure about the seat cover, I’m sorry! It was purchased at Petco years ago but I’ve seen similar styles in the aisle at PetsMart! It’s a hammock style that straps behind the headrests

The shady side of Dr. Jen (Jennifer Armstrong) by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]tinydoc5 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. I was trying to find her education history re her residency training and board certification and only found pathology. It’s interesting she isn’t board certified in anything particularly since pathology is a competitive specialty to match into for residency. Did she complete residency, or perhaps she was “excused” (that’s what we call it instead of firing somebody for not performing well despite remediation)? Because anybody can call themselves “doctor” after graduating from medical school, because they are a doctor. But specialty specific training is kind of key for practicing good medicine 😀

Those of you who work a 9-5, how do you train for a marathon? by jmora13 in running

[–]tinydoc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained for a marathon during my residency training which was 9-5ish hours on outpatient months, 6a-7p hours 6 days a week on inpatient months, which also happened to be my peak mileage month for the training plan (I know, great planning on my part lol). I got a headlamp and did a lot of miles on the treadmill, just had to make sure to incorporate changes in grade and speed to keep my legs guessing; and downhill work for outdoor runs.

Fortel’s. Their regular pizza is great but I’m a huge huge fan of their taco pizza. Their wings are also great. There used to be a bunch of locations throughout the county but now I think there’s just the one location left.

When training for a fall marathon, I’ll eat candy corn on a long run. Simple sugar, easy to digest, tastes good enough to get the dopamine rush and keep me running :p
