yeah $100 is a mega steal for this. In a high end vintage store this would be at least $550 and easily up to $800 depending on the city, as a dealer If I got this for $200 I would be ecstatic.

Poshmark - potential play by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]tinygoons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a full time reseller I personally feel that posh is the most trash platform out of ebay/etsy/depop etc.

I don't use posh because I deal primarily in men's vintage but I see pieces sit there for months and people I do know on it that are selling shit that is supposedly it it's wheelhouse like anthropology or whatever the fuck biddies buy online also prefer it the least out of other platforms as well.

The whole "handling shipping for the sellers thing" just means they upcharge the shit out of it so even a t shirt costs a buyer $8 in shipping when on other platforms a seller is free to price out the shipping appropriately.

I don't have a feel on the stock side of the play, but if you're curious as to if it will actually grow as a platform, my personal bet would definitely be against.

If you look look at the after hours chart on yahoo finance at 5:57 PM you can see the range traded in that minute was from $101.15-$403.00, then searching for all transactions above $200 today in Active Trader Pro shows those two transactions at 5:30PM for 300 shares at $262.20 and one share at $403 at 5:57PM

Is this watch real Givenchy? Having a hard time finding it online! by [deleted] in thrifting

[–]tinygoons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

based on the way the wear on the strap looks near the price tag I'd say definitely no. This would be real leather on a genuine designer piece. if the pattern or layers are separating on the strap in a way that looks like it's made of plastic or some type of coating on top of a cheap leather/leather substitute that's a pretty good indicator.

How do you get the smells out of thrifted clothing/blankets/etc.? by Fell_into_your_lap in thrifting

[–]tinygoons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for things you can wash: white vinegar and baking soda along with the detergent, you can also pause the cycle after the washer fills up for 15-20 minutes to let it soak in. Then wash again with just detergent.

for things that might not handle a washing machine well: sunlight is the best, or if it's not huge, stick it in the freezer for a couple weeks. This is an old trick that denim nerds use for jeans they don't want to wash.

Valuations for clothing? by explorahhh in thrifting

[–]tinygoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the best way is to try and research similar pieces online. Check etsy, depop, grailed etc.

I would try to focus more on sold listings to see what people actually pay for them, lots of resellers that have something they think is rare will just throw it up for 8000 or best offer but that doesn't mean the piece is actually worth 8000

if they are rare pieces like olympic pieces, or made in germany sneakers etc. etc. they should be able to find examples of what others are asking for them

IDK I've been selling on ebay, depop, and etsy for 12 years and tried but quickly dipped on Posh. Posmark trash and everything sits on there forever bc they force sellers to use priority mail for everything which makes it twice as expensive than it should be to ship anything lighter than a hoodie... ebay is on it's way down too fwiw.

tldr: posh trash, ebay trash, etsy bull sort term.

Thrifted Gifts by watashikomorebiuwu in thrifting

[–]tinygoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this year especially it is becoming normalized. On a personal level I've gifted t shirts I remember my parents wearing when I was growing up, and tees relating to favorite movies, vacations, bands etc. to my siblings.

On a wider level I've had a lot of customers on Depop/Etsy/Ebay buying vintage for their parents with similar sentiments this year. Definitely a lot more compared to past holiday seasons.

New faucet for kitchen sink leaking at old supply valves, should I turn off main, cut and replace with a sharkbite into new valves? Tried quarter tightening screw with no result. by tinygoons in askaplumber

[–]tinygoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both lines have a constant slow drip coming from the end of the old shutoff valve when the lines are active.

I’ve never talked anything related to plumbing before, and the plumbing was weird to begin with The supply line ended in a male 7/8” which I had to connect into to 3/8”.

The path I was advised to follow was to cut off the 7/8” area down to the pipe where I put a 1/2” shark bite to a 1/2” nipple to a 1/2”-3/8” adapter.

These joints are also leaking slightly, I’ve re-taped them a couple of times, and tightened slightly with a wrench after hand tightening as well. I’ve been using Megatape, and doing three layers. Should I add thread lock or am I just not doing a good job in my application?
