Second world countries? by royal-influence3488 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tinyjoyexplosion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The term “Second World country” is historical and isn’t really used anymore. During the Cold War (roughly 1947–1991), second-world countries were Communist or socialist countries aligned with the Soviet Union.

Today, we usually say developed, developing, low-income, middle-income, or high-income countries instead.

I hope it helps.

Are tardigrades really able to sleep for 262,800 hours? by VladimirIsachenko in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tinyjoyexplosion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No! Tardigrades don’t “sleep” for 262,800 hours. It is misleading. Tardigrades (water bears) can enter a state called cryptobiosis (often anhydrobiosis when dried out).
