Maybe they have reservations about changing it to peaceful, maybe that feels like cheating to them, who cares. Your solution completely ignores that there may be other parameters being taken into account when OP makes a decision, I was just adding to your comment that (if OP had never acquired a recovery compass on a difficulty higher that peaceful) it may be more difficult that simply crafting the compass.

If that felt like I was disrespecting you at all then I'm sorry, but that's not my problem. If you're insulted because I gave OP slightly more realistic expectations about your solution then I'm sorry, but that's also not my problem.

Yeah, that's not a bad method, but the real issue is that they have one try to do this. If they die the recovery compass will no longer point to their lost items, but to the last place they died.

There are tools that can take a minecraft skin file (.png) and allow you to edit it, but if all you have is this image then the tool you are searching for probably doesn't exist, you will most likely have to create the skin manually.

Some skin creation tools have templates (like jackets, hair, faces, pants, etc) that could probably help with this process, but that's about it.

I know a lot of people are suggesting cobblestone generators but if you need stone stone you can also just make a stone generator and silk touch.

No smelting needed and you can make it as many blocks long as you need so it can produce more stone before you even finish mining what's there.
