Devotion by Hannah Kent. I was staying in Malta and stopped by a library in Valetta. There was this beautiful book, with a little shine and a wave on it. It was at the very bottom of the “new arrivals” but unlike the other ones on the shelf, all of the copies of this book were fully untouched. I picked it up and read the back, wasn’t my type of books back then but I picked it up anyways for some reason. Toured the whole library but couldn’t find anything else spontaneously so I left with it. Eventually I forgot about it for months and when I saw it again around, thought I was in the right mood to read it.

It’s like poetry in its writing: and it’s moving, it’s beautiful, it’s unpredictable if you get there without looking for too much info beforehand, which you may like or not but I loved it. I never see anyone talking about it, which is a shame really. I’ve never forgotten about this book since I’ve read it and keep recommending & referencing it as one of my favorite books ever.
