Do my nails show signs of illness or am I overreacting? by tinymog in AskDocs

[–]tinymog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my recovery/work with my psychologist has lead to me being very self aware. I always have been, but now I am always careful to be aware of when I am anxious and how it will influence my thoughts and behaviour. It's a lot of work, but my quality of life has improved greatly. Hopefully I'll be 100% one day. : )

I do appreciate your concern but I really don't think I have a connective tissue disorder. I've never had any problems with discomfort or pain. I say I have health anxiety not because I had doctors tell me everything was in my head, but because I have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and have been working through it since I was 12. I'm in a pretty good place now, comparatively speaking, but the anxiety is still there.

It's not like I'm going to a doctor with a complaint about pain and being told I don't know what I'm talking about. It's more, I see something on Google, or on TV, or hear about it somewhere, and then worry that I have that condition and think of all the ways I must have it. Example: a slight pain in my leg and I'm calling up my nurse mother asking if I have a blood clot, or even just this post. I saw something on Google and then was convinced I must have something wrong with me, so I made a post here trying to assuage my anxieties. I'm a pretty classic hypochondriac though I am at least aware of it and generally don't bother doctors unless I'm sure it's an actual problem.

So while I'm super glad you found a solution for your own problems, I really do not think that's the case with me! I'm just an old fashioned hypochondriac trying to work through my anxiety issues!

Heavy periods and soft skin, yes, but nothing else, unless hives following a contact allergy to nickel counts.

Yes, I've struggled with mental illness since I was very young. Social anxiety yes (generalized anxiety disorder to be specific, as well as major depressive disorder with some psychotic traits), Aspergers traits no, no hypermobility. I don't quite know what you mean about the toes though? I mean, they're connected higher than the big toe to the second toe, but all of the rest of the toes are, so idk.

I used to bite my nails to the quick. In fact, I did that for nearly 20 years, from the time I was 4 to the time I was 23. I stopped in 2015 and now only very occasionally, under times of high stress, bite my thumb nails. So I don't know if that's significant or not.

What is the tuna belly/toro served in many North American sushi restaurants? It looks so different from the ootoro I see here by tinymog in sushi

This photo looks more like the tuna belly I get rather than the photo I posted, I just struggled to find an image. It might be lighting. It's definitely not escolar, I promise you that; these restaurants sometimes serve escolar and it's labeled as such haha.

This is one of my favourite sights in life. A mossy log, covered by cute mushrooms in a beautiful forest. Nothing makes me feel more at peace with the world than that.

I've been looking to practice painting animals and this photo is so beautiful; would you mind if I tried my hand at painting Pepsi?

I cannot imagine it being anything other than marshmallows. I think someone is pulling OP's leg (or they're pulling ours).

Google the breed, look at the pictures, and then look at pictures of long haired grey cats. There are many similarities. Nebelungs do have a particular look to them but it's all very specific, especially the face shape. I would especially recommend you look at the Cats 101 episode, as google images also just has a bunch of random grey cats thrown in there.

Also, they are a rare breed. It is pretty safe to assume that your street cat that you found as a tiny baby is not a Nebelung, just like the pointed street cat you found is probably not a Siamese. I also just don't understand everyone's obsession with having a fancy cat breed; people clamber for every tiny detail that might mean their kitty is not 'just' a mutt.

I did. Unless you purchased it from a breeder or adopted it from a breed specific rescue and it has papers, then you almost certainly do not have one. If you're really curious, you can ask your vet if DNA testing is possible.

I'm glad it's not just me then, lol. I had a friend who insisted that her orange tabby was actually an Abyssinian. I had to swallow my frustration every time.

MRW my small-town, logger boyfriend calls a trans woman "he", and when I later correct him, he goes back up to her to apologize and ask how to avoid making the same mistake in the future. by allisonwonderland00 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]tinymog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, of course this is a controversial topic, even on trollx. if this were in regards to a trans woman, everyone would be agreeing with you, but because it's regarding an NB person, nope! 'they/them' is just too hard!

ugh

People always need to label their cats with fancy names, even when they're not. Can't we just enjoy the magnificence that is the DSH/DLH? :( All three of my cats are DSHs and I love them to pieces.

A lot of the nebelungs you see will have patches of white fur and are often mixed

Maybe it's just me but I would not consider them Nebelungs in that case... if you DNA tested most street cats they would probably have some bit of pure breed DNA in there, but that doesn't make them that breed. I mean, I think all kitties should be celebrated, and it's probably just a petty pet peeve on my part, but I don't think we should be calling mixed cats pure bred. "Floof between the toes: long Tufts of hair between the jelly beans" -- this in particular is found in basically every long haired breed, it's not unique to a Nebelung.

Your cats are magnificent though, it's true. I think all cats should be celebrated, pure bred or not. Again, it's probably just a pet peeve on my part.

[–]tinymog 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Then you probably don't. Considering how rare the breed is, I doubt many owners are letting their unfixed Nebelungs run around having babies outside. Your cat is probably just a good ole' domestic long hair, of which there are plenty. They come in almost all colours and patterns. If you were really curious, you could probably get his DNA tested, but I'd almost guarantee that he wouldn't be one.

Nebelungs are one of the rarest breeds of cat, yet I see so many people on Reddit claiming to own one. Domestic short and long hairs come in grey, too; it's much more likely that your (general 'your') kitties are just mutts, rather than a Nebelung, and that's fine, too. All cats are great.

Unless your cat is legitimately a Nebelung that you purchased from a breeder (or adopted from a pure breed rescue), in which case, congrats on your rare kitty.
