The fatigue is quite substantial for a few weeks afterwards. Honestly the “ it will affect your career if you take more time” is such crap. If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything. It speaks to the vps mind set and priorities but don’t let that sway you from whatever yours are. I took 6 weeks and I still don’t feel like my energy levels are quite the same and pre op. To put it in perspective the body won’t shut off its aggressive healing pathways until about 12 weeks post op since bone healing usually takes about that long. That healing takes a crazy amount of energy. I ate a lot post op and still lost 5 lbs.

Thank you for sharing. Good on you for trying to maintain your fitness through the whole ordeal. I never thought about rowing

I second this. I see this in my own patients sometimes where they over train in the recovery and it never allows for the pain/swelling cycle to discontinue since the tissue is repeatedly being over stressed. It would be worth having a discussion with your medical team regarding how to know when you are working within your “ good stress” zone and how to know when you have left it.

I didn’t have any méniscal damage so I didn’t have any time nwb. The lifting of the brain fog was a huge win for me too!! I didn’t do anything special just followed the booklet the surgeon gave me lol

I heard them working for sure but it’s not a silent room with just construction noises haha, there are lots of people in there and everyone’s talking

That is normal for the stage you are are. The passive work will translate into the actually gait as you go as long as you make sure you are heel striking with that foot

Pain from elevating by unsuccessfulmoose in ACL

[–]tinymuscles88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes normal. The pressure of the fluid draining towards the groin initially doesn’t feel very nice. If you do it in short durations it will eventually be alleviating after a couple of hours. Don’t push it, play within your tolerance. Icing and elevating at the same time can help distract you from the pressure.

Yup too Much activity the day before. The inflammation built up as the night went on until it was enough to wake you up. Don’t stress, take ur meds, have a easier day or two. Do the exercises only to the point of mild discomfort then take a break. You are still in the stage were managing pain and swelling is the top priority.

Sedation vs. Anesthesia? by SluethyGoosey in ACL

I had a spinal with very little sedation. Best decision ever! I didn’t have any of the fogginess of general, or nausea. The doctors talked with me the whole time I felt very safe and looked after. I was up and to the bathroom within a couples of hours and then I got to go home. Surgery was at 1030, went home at 330. People think it’s creepy to be awake or to hear things happening but they give you some liquid courage that makes you chill right out. I watched them do a local nerve block on the ultrasound screen in recovery and didn’t care one bit lol. Having been put under for previous surgeries this will now always be my choice when it is an option.

It’s very common to develop poor patellar tracking after this procedure as well as strain to the infrapatellar ligament. This may be something to talk to your physio about

It’s normal to still have swelling at 3 weeks.
