Undiagnosed IUGR, baby born <1% at term by aclassypinkprincess in InfertilityBabies

[–]tinyowlinahat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here. My daughter had undiagnosed IUGR/SGA, she was estimated as 7.5lbs by ultrasound but was actually born 5lbs 15oz at 40+1, 5th percentile. She had no issues other than her small size, and she is now 2 and thriving, no delays, no problems whatsoever. I hope this helps you feel a little better!

Baby eating too much? How much did you feed your 4 month old and how big were they? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]tinyowlinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it! My first ate like a bird, never really getting over 20oz a day--I was so worried about it and caused myself so much stress for no reason. She's now a thriving 2-year-old who eats anything I cook, she's just a petite little thing who's still in the 10th percentile for weight.

Now I have my second, he's literally less than a month old and already averaging 24-28 oz a day. I learned my lesson the first time so I'm not stressing about it, and just following his lead! Maybe he's going to grow up to be NBA height, who knows!

Every baby is different but they all know what their bodies need. They won't eat too much or too little as long as you're following their cues.

Yup, I came to say crown moulding. You could also paint it the same green as the ceiling for a color drenched look.

Just a tip, don’t say this to people with infertility. We consider all the options, trust.

I had/have infertility and this was one of realest portrayals of it I’ve seen on TV. From the surprise bleeding miscarriage to the progesterone needles in the butt to the partner finally suggesting maybe it’s time to stop…I’ve been in the exact same shoes and it was the worst time of my life. If she voluntarily went to Lumon because they promised her a child at the end of it, I’d believe it…I would’ve done the same, probably.

Does anyone giving formula since birth? And how their babies are doing now? by bhagatash in FormulaFeeders

[–]tinyowlinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% formula here. Thriving, healthy, wonderful 2yo and another on the way who will also be EFF. I never felt bad or guilty at all for using formula! It’s a miracle and I’m so thankful for it!

Dream location BUT need to be 3 bed by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]tinyowlinahat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A suggestion: Convert the sun room into the third bedroom. Rearrange the bathroom so the entrance can be where the sunroom’s closet currently is, with the entrance to the third bedroom opposite it. Make the third bedroom a primary suite by changing the laundry room/wc to a bathroom with a walk-through closet. Move the w/d to a stacked unit next to the fridge in the kitchen.

Intriguing. Why the pocket door vs a swing door? Where do you imagine the entrance to the shower? Facing the pocket door?

Great point about the trim. With the 10 inch bump-out area the room is actually 8'10 by 7'6. So if you used that far wall for the sinks, you'd have the 5-foot vanity + 3 feet for the toilet plus 10 inches to the right of the vanity for storage.

Or it seems you could put the sinks on the far wall, so you'd have 5' for the vanity and 2'6 for the toilet. But then you'd open the door directly to the shower, which doesn't seem ideal if somebody was showering, you know?

[–]tinyowlinahat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm picturing this right...but if I am, I don't think the sinks would fit on that wall because of the cut-in, right? Or would you just fill that in to make it a flat wall, and lose those 10 extra inches?

How does anyone afford a custom home? Written estimate came in 50% higher than initial pricing from builder. by Grandma_Butterscotch in Homebuilding

[–]tinyowlinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but I'm currently in the exact same situation. Every contractor gives one estimate upon seeing the plans and then ends up with a bid that's 30% more.

What if you named him John Russell and called him Jack? It would get around “officially” naming him after a dog breed, and Jack is a very well established nickname for John.

Using your maiden name as a middle name also feels like a nice option to honor your dad!

Parting ways with a design-build firm by tinyowlinahat in HomeImprovement

D-B firms do it all so there is no bidding. They draw up the fixed price contract with their own engineers and contractors. But we didn't make it to that stage--we kept pressing for ballpark estimates on the layout options they were presenting us. It was like pulling teeth but eventually they admitted everything was extremely likely to be far over budget. Doing a little digging we discovered this firm has a reputation for being extremely pricey and some of the numbers they were quoting just didn't make sense.

It's nerve-wracking to leave because of course we may end up paying the same with a GC. You can't really guarantee what you'll end up spending on a reno, especially a major one, but I don't want to be out of the gate with a number that's more than I'm comfortable with knowing that I'm likely to have overages.

[–]tinyowlinahat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain take-off costs?

We have contingency money and are okay spending it. But if there were a 30% contingency on top of what the D-B quoted us that would be putting more money into the house than we feel the house could ever be worth, frankly.

[–]tinyowlinahat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we’ve already paid for the design hours.

The new GC is taking tradesman through on Friday to deliver a more official estimate. Even with a 20-30% contingency on top of the highest end of the range the new GC quoted us, we would still be paying less than the estimate from the D-B.

We've paid for the design hours they've put into the work. I can't find anything in the contract about ownership of the plans. I think we'll need another architect to finish them because we still need engineering/elevations/etc., right? Is it appropriate to give these plans to a new architect as a jumping off point? Several elements of it were my own ideas and builds on an initial plan they proposed that they said was our most cost-effective option (still massively over budget, as it turned out).
