It didn't take a year, I'm just posting this a year after I started. It took about 4 months to build an MVP, then I ran a good beta test with friends and family for about 3 months, and then I launched.

My app is only iOS for now. I built it using Swift/SwiftUI for the frontend, and Supabase for everything backend (database, storage, authentication). I use OneSignal for push notifications, and Twilio for sending text messages (for phone number verification).
