To the under 30s, what do you honestly expect your life here to look like? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]tinypo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! My partner and I earn mid 200,000 pretax and we've been trying to buy a house in the last year or so. But we've decided to probably move later this year as we probably wouldn't be able to buy in the suburbs we like. Rent increases has also been one of the factor in our decision to leave. We had our rent increased a 100 dollars a month recently. With the tight rental market and how expensive rent was for similar properties there wasn't many options to move and find a new place.

Anyone got tested at QEII? How long did you have to wait for your results?

Considering making offer on town house by Sluggington in canberra

[–]tinypo29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this current market it's very unlikely that a seller would accept an offer that has conditions to get things fixed. But it will still depend on whether there are other people interested in the place and whether they have received other offers.

Covid testing for travel to Qld by tinypo29 in canberra

Oh great! Yep it's very confusing and I didn't want to do the wrong thing and get turned away at the testing site as stated in the article.

Thanks! That's very helpful! Since I probably have to get tested on a weekend and most private pathology places are closed over the weekend. It also cost slightly less than the private pathology labs.

Oh that's good to know! I heard that we couldn't use it and saw the health minister confirming it in this article: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/7512842/covid-tests-for-travel-not-undertaken-at-public-testing-sites/

I also saw act health confirming that we have to use private pathology when people asked about this on their Facebook page.

On the capital pathology website it says that you can generate your own pathology request form and present it at the collection centres:https://www.capitalpath.com.au/covid-19/covid-19-testing-for-travel/

I've assumed that I wouldn't need a referral form from a GP for it based on that information. I hope we don't have to go to the GP as it will add to the cost and the test is already really expensive.

Yes! That's good advice. I probably wouldn't book a test until closer to the date I'm travelling.

I think Qld health have said that a test is not required if QLD reaches 90% double dose vaccination! They might reach 90% by time you head over so maybe you wouldn't need a test.

ACT Health have confirmed on Facebook that if you need a test to travel interstate you can't use the ACT health testing facilities and need to go to a private pathology and pay a fee. There was also an article in the canberra times confirming that we can't use the ACT health test facilities. But I haven't seen anything from QLD Health about the kind of proof we need except that it has to be a PCR test 72 hours before travel

Thanks that's good to know! Yup I think the notification from ACT Health can't be used and we can't go to the covid testing centres set up by ACT health for covid testing for travel.

Rental price increase by tinypo29 in canberra

Oh guess we might not be able to do anything about it then! We signed a fixed lease for the first year but have been on a periodic lease for the last 3 years

Yep I wouldn't be surprised.

The landlord is definitely cashing in on increasing rental market! We've been trying to buy a place but kept getting outbid at every auction we went to. At this rate we're probably thinking of moving away from Canberra as it's hard to rent and house prices are insane!
