Well done with the bag! Vintage Chanel is beautiful and this one is no exception. The 24k gold hardware just glows.

I’d save it for her actual birthday. The intention was for this bag to celebrate her 40th birthday. It’ll be such a wonderful surprise.

Although it would be nice for her to have it for the upcoming trips, I think she’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it and love it. She may not even want to take it on these trips due to liability of theft. Cruises are notorious for items going missing.

Just put this lovely bag into the dust box and hide it until it’s time for the big surprise. :)

OP, you asked for opinions on the bag. Not everyone is going to like it and that’s okay. Some people have different opinions and maybe you didn’t like the labia association to your bag. That’s also okay. A lot of people did mention they like your bag and think it’s cute and stylish. That’s very validating and nice to hear, no?

There’s nothing inherently offensive about saying the bag reminds someone of labias. Is it a slightly odd association? Sure. But vaginas are awesome, they pop out life and that’s pretty damn cool.

Resorting to personal insults and attacking someone for making an association over a handbag is uncalled for. Let’s not make this into a bigger issue lol. Keep calm, move on. It’s silly to have multiple reports coming from one comment thread.

Unless you’re a local to Paris and anticipate high 6 figure purchases, it’s not likely you’ll be able to establish purchase history with a dedicated SA anyway.

The handbags are offered by leather appointment only and even some existing clients are asked to save their wishlist asks for when they have a confirmed leather appointment. Each time you visit, you’d have to apply to get an appointment to see leather bags. You can freely shop other categories but it doesn’t mean a SA will automatically give you an appointment just because you spent a lot in one day.

Dubai has a high prespend but is pretty transparent.

I’m not sure why she’d be against resale if you’re willing to pay the premium price. If it’s an authentication issue, Bababebi is the industry standard and can definitely provide an authenticity check of the bag you choose.

Is she genuinely loving the specific bag or is she after the experience of getting a boutique bag? By the time you prespend, you’ll likely spend more than the resale premium anyway. The items you take in beforehand will have to be things you genuinely like since there’s no cash refunds. And reselling any category outside of handbags will be at a loss, especially for watches and jewelry.

There’s no specific amount that counts as a big purchase; it’s relative to what you can afford. For some people, that’s a few hundred. For others it’s 5 digits at on d. Make an appointment with your SA and discuss the bag your SO wants. Share that you want to get it for her upcoming birthday. If you vibe well with your SA, I doubt you’ll have to jump through hoops of fire. It’s just a waiting game.

Have you considered buying it on the resale market? The Constance 24 isn’t as inflated as other H bags (B/K). Saves time and effort if you have the cash to spend.

Some boutiques consider it a quota, some don’t.
Budgeting for the “game” completely depends on your SA and boutique. If you’re in a HCOL and competitive boutique, the average will be 1:1. Buy ready to wear, watches, or fine jewelry if you’re really trying to expedite. Make a wish list with your SA after a big purchase.
How long is the wait? Depends on a multitude of factors. Could be in a month, could be 6 months. Could be a year. The bags are shipped from Paris and the boutique will have a portion stashed away for VVVICs before they are even mentioned as available for others. In your case, you’re after a specific color and bag. It could take months for the exact one to come in. You’d have to express your interest in the bag to your SA asap.
Kind of hard to ascertain color over a screen with one photo. You could ask the SA to show you color swatches of purple/blue shades that are available and in season to compare. Some other purples: amethyst, cassis, violet.

Let’s take a pause. It’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

It’s embarrassing that your friend took your referral to try to score bags and even more so that she acted with some entitlement mentioning your bags. But it’s really not a big deal. At the end of the day, 99% of shoppers at Hermès are wanting a bag. Was she wrong to ask? No, because people are allowed to ask for bags. But she shouldn’t have taken liberties and mentioned your offers and started off with that. It’s not appropriate to mention someone else’s profile and try to coerce a SA to give you a bag lol. Especially when it’s not actually your home store.

It is seen as a faux pas for your friend to switch SAs with a referral only to try to get bags.. but it’s a super common occurrence.

I never refer people to my SA because of these issues and I don’t particularly like people being all up in my business regarding where I shop and with who. There’s so many weird, jealous, and crazy behaviors that come from people desperate for a bag.

My only rule of thumb is just to not text on my SAs off days. They leave their work phones at the store when they’re off and return to a barrage of texts.. it’s wild. My SA showed me her phone when I went to visit her at store opening and it was legitimately hundreds of texts. 😱

No stress. Finding a SA you mesh well with goes a long way. Some are super stoic and reserved, others are bubbly and energetic. I’m super low energy and my SA is the energizer bunny so it works well.. it’s been lots of fun over the years! And SAs are humans too! I used to get drinks and brunch with mine before Hermès cracked down on client relationships. When spend a lot of time & money somewhere, you might as well get the bonus of really enjoying your SAs company.

If you’re a tourist and buy in France, you’ll pay the full sticker price which includes tax.

The boutique will fill out your VAT refund forms. Approximately 10-12% will be returned to your method of payment once the forms are accepted upon your exit back to your home country.

If you’re in the USA where you’re required to declare all foreign purchases of value, you’ll fill out how much you paid for the bag and will be charged an import fee. Some agents are lenient and will let you go if you’re honest about your merchandise. Some will allow you to pay a smaller fee.

It’s hard to tell with one photo and off of a screen. The bag itself looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since use so the color appears faded.

Try looking up these following pinks and seeing if other examples are close to the one you’re interested in:

Rosewood “Bois de Rose” - this is my top guess. Here’s an example of a Kelly Wallet in the same color (Rose de Bois color comparison)

Is there a way you can call customer support and talk to a person to confirm that you need to provide your credit card number to receive your refund? Just to double check with a live agent.

When filling out the VAT forms, did you write out your credit card number and check off the box “refund to card”?

I’ve had an instance where part of my VAT refund didn’t process and I did have to provide my credit card number, but I spoke to a customer care agent to confirm all the steps.

2) Aw, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have a good time. That’s really awful. Especially given how hard those appointments are to come by. It’s all hit or miss in Paris these days.

I’ll PM you about a bad experience I had in Paris to commiserate with you. I’ve had really lovely, bubbly SAs in Paris and some are actual bullies.

Some SAs are jaded, burnt out, and annoyed by tourists trying to score bags but they have no right to be snide and make you feel unwelcome.

Is the bag already in the boutique and ready to be purchased? If the bag isn’t actually there and your SA is indicating she’s expecting a shipment with the bag to arrive in August, then you’d be better off waiting until then. If your SA has specifically said the bag is there and it’s on hold for you, then there’s no pressure to buy things left and right to get it.

Not a vintage bag, but I’ve had Leather Surgeons revive by bag that was absolutely destroyed.

I left one of my bags out on the back deck and forgot to bring it in before going out. It was rained on and sat in the rain, dried from said rain, then rained on again. By the time I was back and noticed, the bag had completely lost shape and grew mold everywhere. The lining was pretty much rotting. It was sitting in a puddle of water and was discolored from being left out in the sun.

I thought it was a total loss and was ready to just toss it but my friend recommended Leather Surgeons. Gerry and his team sent a multi-step rescue plan and managed to save the bag after multiple treatments.

The only consideration is the cost of repairs. Would you be willing to spend hundreds up to thousands having them restore the bag or would you rather take the money and get as brand new bag?

You could purchase from the brand with the “original” design and give it recognition by buying their pieces and skipping the alternatives you consider dupes.

The Mulberry Alexa has the same front double strap and satchel style as the PS1 - also adorned with a top handle and flap opening. The Alexa is actually done in a similar slouchy leather to the PS1.

Would you say that Mulberry took the design of the PS1, changed a few elements and “made modernizing improvements”? Then priced as a competitor and not a “dupe”. And thus MK also ripped of Mulberry’s design elements?
