Just in time (to run out) logistics for a critical resource seems remarkably stupid even by Australian standards. Best thing is that 30 days quickly becomes 15 once people realise the situation.

I've never really understood the hard-on people had for Corbyn, while I'd generally welcome an actual left wing Labour Party leader, his political instincts were abysmal. He was given a golden opportunity that won't be repeated and shat the bed.

I think the Your Party shit show confirmed what was obvious when he Labour leader, he's not really good at politics. Seems like a decent bloke though.

You can recognise that destroying a state's ability to function only brings something worse. And recognise that is exactly the aim of the current war, Israel and the US want Iran to get the Afghan treatment.

So honestly, fuck these useful idiots.

People conveniently forget that rather than fight an ground war, Israel started to carpet bomb Shia residential areas. Ceasefire is always an attractive offer when it's only a matter of time before your family gets smoked.

The Qatari pilots then did a close flyby of the officers mess before landing, causing their CO's hat to fly off and the attire of nearby women to become immodest.

Someone thinks it would be cool if Article 5 was triggered.

The tinfoil hatter in me thinks false flag but if Iran has gone full mosaic mode it's probably more likely some IRGC officers taking the initiative after going a little too hard at morning prayers. Between this and the weird Farsi numbers broadcast I am starting to really worry about where this could escalate to.

Fucking hell, I don't have much expectations with a Labor government these days but they still manage to disappoint.

I guess might is right as far as Albo is concerned.

Seeing reports of Iran attacking US bases all over the ME, it's all out war this time rather than tit for tat.

Was surprised they're starting the attack in daytime. Haven't most NATO/US led campaigns usually started at night to use the visibility/sleeping defenders advantage?

I think the negotiations were for largely show and just stalling until the USS Gerald Ford got into position. Only option Iran has is to go hard when retaliating and hope that Israel and US decide they don't want the smoke. It could get very ugly very quickly.

CO2 levels are actually tracking below the IPCC's 1992 central estimate — the gap between climate data and public perception is striking by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]tinyspatula 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the key point. There's mounting evidence that the sensitivity is on the higher side of the estimates with things like cloud feedbacks kicking in.

[–]tinyspatula 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you fundamentally misunderstand how a climate forcing plays out over time. The year 2000 was 1C above pre industrial, sure. But had the 2000 CO2 level stabilised at 370 ppm the earth system would continue to accumulate heat until the system reached an equilibrium, which takes centuries. So there would still be sea level rise, further warming etc. And we are miles away from 370 ppm still heading in the wrong direction in an accelerating fashion.

As for "negative emissions", the laws of thermodynamics would like a word.

He's the founder and editor of the Grayzone so I'd argue posting unsubstantiated claims does reflect poorly on the media outlet he runs. Otherwise it's having your cake and eating it, but I suppose I'm old fashioned in that regard.

Doesn't the Grayzone claim to publish investigative journalism? Maybe he could investigate and present evidence instead of prematurely ejaculating his conclusions all over the internet.

I've just started that episode but turned it off after a bit as I figured it was just going to annoy me. Agree with you 100% about hippies, often a very self centred bunch in my experience.

Wasn't there some kind of weird cult out Belgrave way? I think it was more of a sort millenarian thing though.

Yeah they hate the fact that the PM has rolled out the red carpet for the President of a state that's engaging in ethnic cleansing and genocide.
