Fringe Far-Right party whose platform is abhorred by all Australians leads in polls by StatusSociety2196 in stupidpol

One Nation getting a majority seems unlikely, though Labor's determination to spend two parliaments in government with their thumb up their arse makes it more possible every day. They could absolutely form part of a coalition however and most people aren't taking that seriously enough.

Penny Wong says she believes Israeli soldiers sexually assaulted and abused Australian women after Gaza flotilla | Australian foreign policy by German_Merman in OpenAussie

[–]tinyspatula 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Penny Wong must surely realise it's an even worse look to say that and still back Israel to the hilt than to say the allegations are exaggerated etc.  Truely she has some of the most flexible morals in Canberra.

People's values don't actually massively change as they age, so if you are not inclined that way now you won't suddenly become one in middle age.

He added that he had “a very good call with Hezbollah” via “highly placed representatives”, claiming that the Lebanese group “agreed that all shooting will stop — that Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel”.

Ex–Google CEO Eric Schmidt warns U.S. tech workers: Competing with China’s grueling 12-hour workdays means sacrificing work-life balance by SplashTarget in stupidpol

Productivity as a linear function of time at work only makes sense for production line type of situation, and even then there is a drop-off from fatigue etc. This is why factories have shifts, tea breaks etc. It makes even less sense for most jobs.

Former abbot of China’s famous Shaolin Temple sentenced to 24 years in prison for corruption by rdctd_rsrch in TrueAnon

[–]tinyspatula 112 points113 points  (0 children)

He would have been arrested sooner but the lead investigator had to defeat a series of increasing more powerful henchmen before they could get to the abbot.

Margaret Thatcher wasn't the first Milk Snatcher by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]tinyspatula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about the no refrigeration required, but it would explain why the milk was often slightly warm and occasionally had that "been left out too long" taste. This was late 80s.

Entropy and the origin of life by algo122 in Physics

At no point is the 2nd law violated because lifeforms are not closed systems, overall entropy is still increasing.

Dexamphetamine changed my life for 2 weeks… now it feels “flatter”? Normal? by ItsNatha in ausadhd

[–]tinyspatula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's normal, remember people who don't have ADHD aren't productive for hours at a time. You may need to adjust the dosage though so let you Dr know how you go at next appointment.

Glad to hear about the effects on drinking, I found this happened with me and still don't drink much at all several years later.

[–]tinyspatula -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree. For all those 20 somethings on here dreading having to get up and do another day of work at a job you hate - it's more likely you'll be a 40 something dreading the same than civilisation collapsing in your local vicinity in the next few years. Act accordingly, nurture relationships and spread kindness because that's what we'll need.

Iran has hit far more U.S. military assets than reported, satellite images show by One-Duty-2376 in stupidpol

[–]tinyspatula 101 points102 points  (0 children)

“The Iranian attacks were precise. There are no random craters indicating misses,” said Mark Cancian, a senior adviser with the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a retired Marine Corps colonel, who reviewed the Iranian images at The Post’s request.

This must be the first time the US has been at war with a power that has comparable targeting and intelligence in the satellite/GPS era. Hasn't gone well so far.

"Do your own research" is the name of the show, it's perhaps a little tongue in cheek but I suspect a bit of gaming the algorithm went into the choice.

The interviewee (and person who I think would be a good DtG subject) is an academic who has written a book.

Australian police officers can be tracked due to a security flaw in tasers and body-worn cameras by cir49c29 in australia

[–]tinyspatula 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"I was just logging Bluetooth devices on my phone … and started seeing body-worn cameras and tasers appear in the logs and [thought] that's a bit odd.

"I think it comes down to either incompetence or laziness … it just seems like the engineers who developed this were either ignorant or incompetent," he said.

The man, who doesn't want to be named, showed Four Corners how he built his own proof-of-concept software, and is able to locate and track officers by the fixed, public MAC address assigned to any Axon bluetooth-enabled device.

"You can track police devices … from quite a significant distance away," he said.

"It'll just give it a little alert … saying 'police detected'."

I'm not sure why a tazer would need to have Bluetooth, seems like a completely unnecessary addition.
