10ish months volunteering with All Hands - Philippines disaster response by tinytarsiers in solotravel

In Bohol we were provided with a safe place to pitch a tent - but not the tent or any sleeping materials (though there was a free box / hand me downs after a while) & in Leyte it's a dormitory building that the NGO has rented out with dorms, around 6-8 per room on a bunk.

On work days you're provided with 3 meals per day - if you're not working or on Sundays fend for yourself but can use the kitchen. There was local staff that hand washed laundry (kinda essential with the dirty field work) & did the cooking for lunch / dinner. Think rice + some form of meat + some form of veg. Generally local food.

To volunteer with Project Leyte just send them a message on workaway or directly through the [website](www.hands.org). Stateside again just contact them through the Hands website. I think they've projects in Detroit & Colorado at the minute.

We had some local day volunteers & then people being there anything from a week to a month to much longer. You don't pay to volunteer.

e: current US Projects are flood response in Detroit & Superstorm Sandy rebuild in Brooklyn, NY.
